140vld vs 130vld for hunting

Curious as to what to expect in terms of fps increase and windage for an upcoming load dev. I currently run 6.5mm 140 Hybrids at 2750fps(Varget and would like to keep running it) out of my 6.5x47L(24" 1in8 twist, suppressed), and need to dev a load for whitetail this upcoming season. Up in the air between 130&140 VLDs

any advice on direction or pointers would be massively helpful.

Not directly answering your question, but I have had great luck with the 130 g Accubond on deer out of my vintage 6.5x55.

When i had my 6.5 X 47 i ran Varget with 130 VLDs (orange box) at 2875 ish out of a 25 inch 8.5 twist Kreiger. Load was extremely accurate and was a hammer on deer. I have no doubt the 140 VLD would work great as well. Not sure how the hybrids would work on deer as i've never used them to hunt with but i really like the hunting VLDs.

It's all dependent on where your accuracy/velocity node ends up with either to get a fair comparison.

I run the Varget with the 130 VLD's at 2820 in a 23" barrel. I took it to 2947, but didn't have the accuracy.

The 130's have a pretty good track record on game, so that's what I went with.

Last year I could not find any 130 so I went with the 140gr. They worked well for me so I don't plan to invest any effort to chase a change. Nice node at 2900fps using Power Pro 2000MR, which I also run with 123 Scenars for targets at 3050fps; best powder I have tried for the 6.5x47 so far. In terms of windage the 140 VLD is a little less than the faster 123 Scenar.

What length barrel?

dcnyli,
Go to our website and use the ballistic calculator to get an idea of what may be up. Be sure to put the correct altitude in. Just for fun try the Twist rate calculator too for both bullets.

I've shot 15-16 animals (all antelope and deer) with the 140gr VLD, but the bullets were moving at 3210 fps. Later as the throat wore down, I was shooting them at 3150 fps. Think I may have killed one or two anmals with them at that slower speed...? Have to check my game harvest records. That barrel has since shot itself out and I am now shooting them in my new barrel at 3209 fps. The 140gr VLDs work extremely well. I saw nothing but flawless terminal performance on every animal. You will also find many favorable reviews with the 130gr VLD so I don't think you can go wrong either way.

I don't have any experience shooting game with 140gr Hybrids, but I'd be willing to bet they work just as well.
