135 Classic Hunter vs. 130 HVLD

I just shot around 15 groups with the 135 Classic Hunter. I now believe the hype as to how insensitive they are to seating depth vs. the HVLD. I tested with RL 16 and H4350 in a 6.5x47 lightweight hunting rifle. Not one group was over .6" at 100y. When found a powder node, all were under .3". This was all at a randomly selected .020" off the lands. My experiences with the HVLD were all over the place. Classic Hunters were all shot at a less than perfect temporary range with a rickety bench and high heat. I guess it can be argued that my rifle simply "prefers" the CH, but I doubt it.

That is good news!

I have (200) CH 135 grainers sitting here waiting to test.

I was planning on Varget, but maybe H4350...after reading this.

I can relate to your experience. I tested some 30 caliber classic hunters and hlvds in my hunting rifle, and the classics did group better than the hvlds. I won't go into details here for fear of a thread hijack :p

Hijack away... I neglected to mention that I also tried the 168 classic hunter for the first time out of my 280 AI. Only shot one group and it came in at 1/2" out of another hunting rifle. These are nice guns, but I have never had this success in either straight out of the gates.

The 135 CH has a better, published, ballistic coefficient than the 130 HVLD. Sort of a no-brainer for me if I can push them over 2800 fps from my 23" barrel.

If i could figure out how to post a picture now, I'd post a side by side target. Since photo bucket is crap now, i don't know how.

Shot anything alive with them yet? I shot a few deer with the 130's last year and never could even find a shred of bullet. No exits, would be hard to imagine the 135 could have a thinner jacket.

Thought about trying the 135 CH in the Grendel. Wondered how they would perform on deer also.

I have only shot paper with them. I am also going to try the 120 ballistic tip.

I just reread my post. I was able to get the 130 HVLD to group very well but it took a bunch of experimentation.

I'm really liking my 130 hybrids out of the Beanland. They may be "insensitive" to seating depth, but they certainly have a preferred spot. I had planned to try 130 VLDs, but think I'll skip that.

I may give these 135s a try just for kicks.

CTK, was it really worth selling your soul for the 4350?? I say that because that's the only way I've heard it can be had, haha.

SG 4247, Varget ain't a slouch either. My loads shot a lotta ones and twos, won't shoot over a four as far as I know, and has a whopping SD of 4.8 using a chargemaster and trickler.
Like CTK's, it's a lightweight hunting rifle.
