130gr 6.5 norma golden target bullets

Hey Dooley,

Do you have a source for these bullets in the UK, Midway are showing out of stock until sometime next year and my regular supplier in the States is out of stock. Tried a few in a 6.5x47 and they shot very well, better than the 139 Scenar I had been using. Any leads appreciated.

Thanks,

Richard.

Hi Leeman, if you look on the norma list of uk agents you will see there are quite a lot of them all around the uk, incidentally if you look on quicktarget which comes with quickload they list the G1 bc as over 6, how true that is is anyones guess, all I know is I have shot them in my 260 and my 6.5x47 and at 100 and 600yds they shot better groups than 130gr bergers and JLK's, let me know if you find any, and I will do the same, what powder are you using in your 6.5x47, I have been using Rel 17 and Elcho 17 which appears to be the same powder, Regards dooley

The base to ogive distance is quite a bit longer on the Normas than the Bergers. So much so that with my 6.5x47 throated for 130gr bergers, I had to seat them so deep I thought I had measured the base to ogive incorrectly. Way to much case capacity loss for me, but my buddies 6.5 creedmore let him use more of his mag capacity. They do shoot well in his gun as in a 5" 600yard group ........though that was 21 rounds and over a 2 grain weight charge difference (ladder test lol).

PS: The Normas meplats look like they have been pointed compared to the Bergers

Hi Dooley,

I'll try those agents, thanks.

I'm using Vit N550. At a recent 1000 yard shoot the few Norma's I had loaded were impacting 1.5 - 2 MOA higher on the target than the 139 Scenar, wind call was more difficult to make as it was quite a fast switchy detail I was shooting in, the impression I had was that the Norma's were at least as good in the wind, maybe slightly better even though the Scenars had been pointed. I don't think it would be worth trying to point the Norma's as they already have a tiny meplat. The real good news is that the Scenars were at my maximum accurate load, around 2890fps, whereas I could definitely drive the Norma's a bit quicker than the 2920fps I'd settled on, having done some limited testing the week before. Whether they would maintain the accuracy remains to be seen if I can get my hands on some more, Laurie having kindly given me a handful to try initially. By the way, what essential says in his post is spot on, you'll need a really long throat to take advantage of the Norma's.

I've got some Elcho 17, but that's for a 284win I've just finished putting together, I get such good results with N550 I wouldn't bother with anything else, plus I've got 3.5kg to get through, although I am also using it in a 6br.

Richard.
