115 DTACs what do they like for seating deapth??

I have a 6SLR and picked up some 115DTACs to try out. I have shot 107 Sierras and they like to be "IN" while the 105 Hyb. likes to jump. Is there a rule of thumb for the 115s?? I realize all guns are different but was wondering if the 115s have a preference that you guys have found with your rifles. Thanks guys!!!!

My 6SLR shot the 107 smk's very accurately @ 600 with a bit of a jump. 115 Dtac's and H1000 with a slight jam and it was no comparison. I have since switched over to the Dtacs. Never could get the 105's in my 7.5 twist Bartlein to shoot. Eric in DL

Raptor, the 115 DTAC in my 6CM (Competition Match) has shot good from 50 thou jump to just off the lands. My Tac rifle shoots them .030 off the lands and the last time on paper at 600 the 115 DTAC held .4 moa with 3900 rounds down it. This was a 5 shot group. I'm sure your 6SLR will be similar.

Maybe I'm weird, but no matter what 6mm I shot them out of (and I've shot a lot of them out of a lot of different 6mm's), I always found the 115 DTAC's shot better in the lands about .015".

No Robert, your not weird, I shot them softseated out of my Tac rifle. 5 - 5 shot groups back to back at 100 yards, 2 groups in the 0's, 1 in the 1's, 1 in the 2's, and 1 in the 3's. These are tenths of an inch, the only problem with this is they were longer then mag lenght.

The biggest issue I have found with 115 DTACS is that they are UNAVAILABLE!

My SLR shoots them better than 105B or 107 SMKs. But in order to shoot them you have to have them.

Anybody here when they will be running them again, if ever?

Got some to sell, email me at Bob3700@att.net

Bob- Sorry, I don't have any for sale, but they were back in stock at Tubb's about 3-4 weeks ago and I was able to get a couple of boxes. They didn't last long (1 day) but they may pop up back in stock at the other dealers or Tubb's again soon. One of those deals where you check it every day and almost fall out of your chair when you see...."in stock", next day...gone! For me H1000 has been tougher to find!! Good luck with your quest!! I have had a back order in with Tubbs SSS since last November (they even took a CC number) and have received nothing.

Guess I need to call them once again.

I am doing some loads now with my 243AI. The DTAC's are good to go at mag lengh for me. I am going to try to keep them there so I don't HAVE to single feed for my best accuracy. With 49.5 H-1000 I am at 3050ish and 1/4". I will tweak the powder and primer to see if she will tighten up a bit at that seating depth. I already know the gun will shoot tighter. I did that with FF loads.....

The act of working up powder charges and adjusting seating depth is to tune your specific rifle.

Ray

What Ray said is absolutely correct. I have shot 2 barrels of 6-47 Lapua with 7.5 twist barrels and shot 115DTAC's. In the one rifle it shot best at 7-8K INTO the lands and the other barrel shot best at 4-5K off. You let the barrel tell YOU what IT likes, not the other way around. I would do a seating depth ladder test from 20K IN to 25K off the lands, in 5k increments. It will become readily apparent where YOUR rifle likes those bullets.

They seem to shoot well in my rifle. I tried them at .020 off to .010 in. They seem to shoot the best at .010 in but I am getting pitted primers at my normal load for the 107s and even at a grain less it still is showing a slight pit in the primer. I haven't cronographed the load but if it won't shoot close to the same velocity as the 107s I don't think I will gain anything over the 105 HYBs.

The 105HYBs shoot really well in my rifle. Actually all three bullets shoot well. I shot the 107MK and the 105HYB and the 115DTACs and out of 5 groups with the three different bullets the five 5 shot groups averaged 1" for all at 300yds. I had a .7 a 1.0 and three 1.2s for my groups. I can live with that for tactical shooting.. Thanks guys!!
