115 DTAC records

With the old DTACs and gen 1 RBT DTACS, absolutely. The latest version of the DTAC, doubt it.
I was about to jump into the DTAC world but have heard concerns from more than one source about current production? Are you willing to elaborate on some of the issues? Thank you very much!

I have shot 115 Dtacs out of David's rifle... was smacking the same splat on the head of a silhouette at 1100 yards from a bipod.

I really, really doubt David would go backwards.... but then everything you read on the Interwebs be true.

I have 2000 of the last generation of pointed 115's to shoot in my newest 6mm Competition Match barrel. Before they are gone I'll have to make a decision on RBT's or something else. I have read a bit that the newest RBT is lacking accuracy. Is it interweb truth or not?

Last box of 500 I got was maybe 2 months ago, HBN coated pointed RBT. They're not lacking in accuracy, they grouped identical to the last box, even shot the same point of impact and had the same velocity as the last box. What I do see is lot to lot BC variations that are pretty huge. One box was over .600bc, another came in at ~.580 based on drop at 1000yrds. I'd never gotten noticeable variation before from them then about a year ago I guess it'd be, I started seeing a lot of variation. Honestly I'm about a heartbeat from going to ELD's.

Interesting, thanks for replying.

I see that not many match shooters are using them.

What type of Match are you talking about? If it's Benchrest your lagging behind if you're not shooting custom bullets in my opinion, johara asked about measure and sorting. I believe I've read a post or two on this from him or it could have been a shooter of his caliber. Sorting domestic bullets would benefit any shooter. None of them are perfect.

I shot the new Naked and HbN coated 115 Dtac's rebated BT in a new Krieger 4G on a Panda action. I had Mike Ezell's tuner on the 30" 7T barrel.

I screwed the tuner out one full revolution, then a tad more to get the 0 at top dead center. I worked up the powder charge and preferred primer at that setting, took around 60 rounds due to wind. Then I started playing with the tuner and found the range on the tunner were the barrel was grouping in the very low 1's, then continued tunning.

I made bullets for a long time, and never found that a rebated bt to hinder accuracy, but the lot # of jackets would make a difference.

I really love Mike Ezell's tuners, and a guy would be hard pressed to find a better guy to help you understand the tuners. That having been said, I doubt that a tuner would make up for unbalanced bullets(jacket quality), or bullets were the cores were not seated properly.

In the targets below, you will see numbers that represent:

group size
powder charge
seating depth measured with a caliper and Davidson ogive gauge
Tuner setting relating to Zero on the tuner

I found what I thought was thebest powder charge, then best tunner setting, then went to work on the powder charge and seating depth.

Wind this day was a hard tail wind, with a swirl from left to right that you can clearly see in the groups.

For me, the 115 rebated bt worked very well. I have about 100 rounds on the barrel at this time, all with the 115g Dtac.

You need to do more reports!!

I am shooting the 108 Berger at 38.5 of R16 at 2975. My freebore is only 100 though which would likely affect the powder charge.

I've heard people say very negative things about "current production" DTACS and I've gotta say I don't have any problem. I've built 3 , 8 twist 6x47 Lapua's and all three of them shoot them AMAZING ! In weighing the bullets, the last batch of 500 , 17 of the 500 weighed 114.9 and the remainder were 115.0. 3 guns , and all shoot sub 1/4

I was curious about any kind of state or national competition.

I have and do shot a lot of Long Range F/Class 800, 900 &1000 Yard Matches.
Not Many D-Tacks as of late ? Berger has it covered.
Most Tubb Rifle I see are Re-barreled.

I would think , A Cross the Course Shooters use them still ?

I shot them in a 1000 Yard Prone Rifle some years back , Hammer.
A 6 Remington case, great shooter very short barrel life .
