110 SMK or 115 DTAC RBT

Hey gents, looking to get some input from those of you who have tried both of these bullets. I have a 7" twist 243 Win barrel on order from NSS that should be ready in January. The rifle is being used for play target shooting only (not competition). I originally had planned on loading the 110 SMK's, but am now considering the new 115 DTACs with the RBT. How have these two compared to one another if you have used both in a given rifle? Input on other cartridges would be appreciated if you've tried both bullets.

Since you have a "straight" 7 twist. I have a friend who shoots the 115 Berger VLD and has been for several years. His is amazingly accurate out to 1000 yards! He shoots his out of a 6mm BRX.. He is getting right at 2925f.p.s. shooting Varget. When the wind is not blowing too hard, he shoots very, very well 1000 yard F-Open.. It is simply another option to consider. BUT you NEED the "straight" 7 twist..

I've shot both and both are great bullets. Pick the one that shoots the best for your rifle. The DTAC needs a lot more free bore than the 110.

Shot both in my 6mmAI and had positive results with both, the edge going to the 110's. But you've got to remember that's just my rifle. The only way to find out what recipe works in your rig is to shoot both and see which your rifle prefers. I've done so many damn ladder tests in my rifle with different bullets and powders that I'm going to burn out the barrel before I've finished.

I would definitely give both of them a try since you have a 7 twist. I've shot a ton of the DTACs and they are my go-to bullet anymore, but am playing around with the 110s in my Dasher for fun at the moment.

^this. I truly believe the negative talk about the Berger 115 VLD’s is due to people trying to shoot them out of 8 twist bores. This bullet will do best from a 7.

To the OP, the 110 appears to be the ultimate 6mm bullet if using a 7 twist.

I tried them out of a 7.5 twist going well above 3000f.p.s. and they WOULD NOT stabilize. You absolutely MUST have a "straight" 7 twist. However, with a 7 twist, it is, without doubt, one of the MOST accurate 6mm bullets available. AND it truly belies the meager .557b.c. it carries. I think it is REALLY up near .600b.c.

So you're getting keyholes with them? I shoot n 8 twist and the only thing I get is 3 in a small group and 2 out about an inch or so away. Yea, the bc of the 110MK is .617. https://i.imgur.com/5cZaz6Y.jpg

No they were not keyholing.. However, with a rifle that shot under an inch @ 300 yards and it goes to 6+ inches, it is either a broken scope or it 'taint stabilizing properly. The friend that I have that shoots them in a 6mmBRX tried it with a 7.5. I was scoring for him at a 1000 yard match. He was literally getting 3 ft. groups out there. His scores were, well let's just say he was embarrassed.. AND He is a very good shot! I have seen him shoot 4+/- inches on several occasions at 1000 with a "straight" 7 twist..

I am seriously considering the 110's and have 100 of them on the way for a rifle that has parts being ordered. I'd for sure consider the 115's and will order 100 of them as well after the holidays.

What powders are y'all using in your rifles with these bullets? H4350 is, of course, popular but by me it's vaporware. Anything else that you'd recommend?

Sierra lists load data for the 110 smk in 6mm Creedmoor. Not exactly the same, but would be a good starting place for 243. Also, H414 may be a good one.

H-1000 or N-165. Neither are the speed-queen that H-4350 is but longer barrel life is indicated with either powder.

Just got back from range here in Reno. I shot the 110 MK and the 107 MK out of Bartlein 8" twist . H4350 from 40.7 to 41.7 12 rounds total per bullet. I was in a rush and I think the 107s are a tad better by a whisker at 100 yards. OAL seating of the 110 was 2.860 ,loaded ammo looks cool. BC of 107 is .527 and BC of 110 is .617 . It that difference, of great significance ?
