105 grn Hornady BTHP or 105 grn Berger Hybrid

I am needing some info on bullet selection. I have the 6 mm Creedmore in a gasser on order and have quite a wait ahead of me but I'm good with it.

What I'm trying to decide is to go with the 105 Honady BTHP or the 105 Berger Hybrid. I would like to here back from those that have have shot both and now decided on one or the other and why. I know that there is a $ 10 difference but that's not my concern.

In addition to just shooting paperback, I will hunt with this rifle. Coyotes, deer and antelope. I have this question posted on other boards and am trying to get as much info as possible.

Thanks

The BC on the hybird is enough to make me pick that bullet, between the two you have listed. Now for a hunting bullet I would be looking at the Amax vs the Hunting VLD. That would be a lot tougher decision in my mind, especially if your gun will shoot the Amax's well.

Good luck.

If I was shooting paper for group I'd shoot the Berger. If it was 1-2 moa steel Hornaday. Coyotes, without a doubt the 105 Amax.

Been down this road....Unfortunately the Hornadys I bought were so irregular in length, ogive and any other measurment I took, I finally gave up and stopped using them. They will work maybe for fireforming. Hornady is a great company and has many great products but these 105 HPBT's are not one of them in my opinion. Their quality control on these bullets is greatly lacking. On the other hand the Bergers are outstanding and their hybrids are exceptionally consistant as are all Bergers I've had.....Just my experience.
Best Wishes

Thanks for the input guys. Please keep in mind that I will be shooting these out of a gas gun (GAP 10) and the jump could be a problem w/ the Bergers. I just got an update from a guy and at 1040 yds, the Bergers required .5 mil less elevation than the Hornady's but he was getting some tip damage from seating them out longer than the Hornady's. I'll have to wait for his next update and how they perform seating them shorter.

Neither is the Amax and plenty of people use them . Shot placement... if it wasn't for the polymer tip, I would be giving them a try.

Good point, although it doesn't say anything on Hornady's box. The AMax is supposed to be a match bullet, but I can tell you that it is devastating on groundhogs.

And Mule Deer, Coyotes, Jackrabits, Badgers, Prairie Dogs, White Tail and Antalope. Other than that they dont work very well.

Plata.. The hybrids like jump... So no worries there. As do the VLD's... They like ALOT of jump. See there web sight for recomendations on jump and seating depth.

Try the 107 Sierra MK's. They are probably the most forgiving bullets out there. I found , at least in my guns, the Bergers to be jump senisitive. The 105 hybrids liked .015 jump the 105 Hunting and Target VLD's wanted .030 for accuracy. The Sierra MK's are happy between .010 and .020 jump and I didn't have much luck with the 105 Horrandy's. That doesn't mean my results will be the same for you or others.

2 cents

I posted a picture of what a 107 SMK did to a deer on here..(head shot).. I thought they was very easy to shoot but for a gas gun I would choose probably the Amax.. They fit in my magazine well and have a fairly good BC...When people complain about tolerance I don't get it..I sort my bullets no matter what manufacturer it is when shooting for groups..

Ive shot both the Berger hybrid and the Sierra 107 MK. This out of a 27" 6X44BR. Ive found almost no difference in come ups at 430 yds and the match i shot yesterday required 4 more clicks come up on the Hybrid from calculations(JBM). Accuracy on the hybrid may be a tad better 3/4" @ 430 yd V. 1" at 430. Yesterdays match had winds up to 40K so, I wont expound too much about it. Still Hybrids Agg'd under 4" @ 600yds. Didnt place in agg. But w/ abit of work up I think thr MK may + the hybrid-the BCs seem comparable.
