105 Berger Moly - 6BR load data

Ok folks, either my searches are coming up empty or I'm typing in the wrong words....or a combination of both.

I'm looking for load data for the 105 VLD Moly in a standard 6BR with RE-15. I noticed the load on the favorite recipes with VV540, but nothing on RE-15 with moly.

Gun data: 6BR .270 neck built on a Stolle Teddy Action with a 28" Kreiger 8 Twist barrel.

This gun will shoot 105 Berger VLD naked bullets with 31g of RE-15 with no pressure signs.

Now, however, I want to switch to Moly and I really don't have a clue as to what I should base the load off of. 31g RE-15 naked....??? grains of RE-15 for moly?

Thanks for your time,

Load work-ups are pretty much the same as for Varget, though many people find they can go a bit higher with RL-15,and, consequently, run 30-70 fps faster).

For people shooting 105s for the first time, I suggest starting at 29.5 grains, with bullet seated .010-.015 into the lands.

You will probably end up with a max of about 31.5 grains, based on your "naked" bullet load.

But, be cautious. I know people who say there's no pressure signs right up until they ruin the brass. Especially if they don't have an ejector. I'm not trying to be insulting here. I'm just saying, at 31.0 grains of RL15 you are probably very close to a "practical max." Measure your cases above the rim as you up the load.

I'm also wondering why you want to switch to moly unless you are planning to fire long strings between cleanings,70+ rounds).

Thanks, Paul!

I generally take no offense at any comment and will use your words of caution. I am not a speed freak; however, I have taken note of the comment on cleaner burning RE-15 at higher loads in the 6BR.

I simply didn't want to load the moly rounds with an unsuitable amount of powder in relation to how well it shoots the naked 105s with 31g of RE-15.

Switch to Moly? You are dead on with the long strings before cleaning....We can shoot at ranges of 300-1000 yards at a local rock quarry. As you know, there is a lot of sand in a rock quarry.

I really do not like lugging all the cleaning equipment out there in the first place...call me lazy...but on the flip side of the coin it bothers me when I clean my rifle then a big gust of wind blows sand/dirt everywhere. No one else seems to notice, but I do.

And......I don't want to start a moly vs naked debate....but I have read most of the guns of the week articles and there are a lot of winners out there that shoot moly.

Terry Brady, Tom Brewer, Frank Beckman, Rich DeSimone, etc.

A few record holder's in there....

Anyway, I am not really concerned with the debate of accuracy: moly vs. naked....

I just want to avoid cleaning at the range, quarry).

Thanks again for your thoughts,

I shot naked 105s for a couple of years and just switched to moly about 3 months ago. I had to increase my load by exactly one-half grain to achieve the same results...very good results.

Although I am using Varget the formula holds for R15.

My best load with 107 SMK Moly and RL- 15 is 31.5 gr in a 6mm Dasher. This is slow but very accurate. Try the 95 gr Moly Bergers it is a way more "balanced" load. I use 33.0 gr to 33.7 which is high pressure. In my Dasher 31.5gr with 107s over a friends crono ran 2860 something. Try backing off a bit with a standard 6BR you may be surprised at how well the 6BR shoots light loaded SMKs if you have an 8 twist.
