105 berger hybryd

I think I might try the 95 if I can find them. Thank you

Lots of good suggestions here. However , if you want the "red mist" effect use one of our 6mm varmint bullets. The 69 and 88gr are high BC due to their VLD nose design so you have to do VLD load development with them and as was stated in a previous post use a slower barrel twist rate. The BERGER hunting bullets like the 87 or 95gr VLD or CLASSIC HUNTER may give you better performance also but these bullets typically penetrate 1-5 inches before they start their expansion /fragmentation. Prairie dogs just aren't that big. So through and through shots like you got with the 105 Hybrid target may occur also. So if you want the dramatic effects you may want to find what the maximum range is for one of the varmint bullets and limit yourself to that. For longer ranges use the 87 and 95grain bullets. For really long range the 6mm hybrid target. Making your rifle a "switch barrel" would help also by giving you the flexibility to have both options to use out in the field.

I used the 105 berger hybrid in my 6br on prairie dogs yesterday. my rifle really likes these bullets but there is no expansion at all. is there another bullet that is as accurate but will kill prairie dogs

I have been using the Berger 88 gr High BC FB Varmint bullet #24323 for prairie dogs, and it does a great job on them, and is super accurate.
I load 31.7 gr of Varget, seat .007 into the lands as determined by the wheeler method, in my 6BR, 28" 8 twist Krieger barrel.
The last session at the range I recorded 3128 fps at 48 F, and the 3 shot group was 0.164. Berger Lot # D090

I have just loaded 600 rounds for a prairie dog hunt coming up in about 3 weeks. I have noted a difference in required seating depth between lot numbers. Lot # 8896 required 1.819 (Ogive to cartridge base) to get the .007 into the lands. My current loads are with lot # D090, and they require 1.811 OTB to get my .007 into the lands.

It takes a varmint bullet to really explode them, and even then, it is not unusual for a through and through shot to leave them run back to their hole. I have used Sierra 55gr Blitzkings in my 22-250 at 3700fps, and still have it go through them. That is evidenced when you get a double or a triple.

I suggest you try the 88 Bergers, into the lands, (I say that because I know a lot of the 105 hybrids are seated off the lands) and see how they work for you.
