105 Berger Hybrids in a Straight 6BR?

Anyone using these successfully in a 6BR at long range (500-1000yds)? What twist is your barrel? Thanks

I use them in a 29" 1-8 twist Krieger 6BR using 30.0 grains Reloder 15 seated into the lands. At sea level that load seems to stabilize them. I shoot them at 600 and 1000 yards with some success.

I have used them at 600 and 1k in both a Border 30" and Kreiger 30", both 8 twist. They shoot excellent from 100-1000 with Varget. I get 2850fps out of each barrel with exactly the same load.

I've had success at 600yds with them from my Shilen 28" 1:8 twist barrel using IMR 4895, Vihtavuori N-140, and Vihtavuori N-540 at muzzle velocities just below 2900 fps. They're my bullet of choice except when I can't get them then I use 105gr VLD Hunting.

The reason for the questions is I'm thinking about giving them another go in my 8" twist 6BR. When I checked the Berger site, they are now recommending a 7" twist for the hybrids and actually show the 105 hunting with a higher G7. Thanks for all the input. Dan andFatboy, are your Kriegers a 236 or 237 bore? Thank you

The 105 Hunting bullets are VLD while the hybrids are not, so the better BC of the VLD makes sense. In addition, a call to Berger revealed that the Hunting bullet has a thinner jacket which produces a better shaped tip when they are formed. Therefore, according to the gent I spoke with, several of the guys who work at Berger prefer the Hunting bullets.

shooting up to 1000 yds with Savage LA sporting a 28" full bull 8 twist using Berger 105 VLD's and Hybrids in Lapua brass. not a problem.

Yep I was using them in my 6br krieger hv 1:8 twist with 30.6gr of 2208/varget best was 1.6 inch at 547y or 500m.. +/- 2 inch groups on good day

Tim,
The 1-7 twist rate is figured on a worst case scenario of 59 degrees Fahrenheit at sea level. Go to our TWIST RATE CALCULATOR here :
http://www.bergerbullets.com/twist-rate-stability-calculator-updated/
be sure to enter in the correct or as close to correct altitude(s) of where you will be shooting at to get the correct SG (stability factor). Read here :

Take care,

Phil, thanks so much for the info. Looks like I'll be OK with a 8 twist. I'll probably get a 7.5 in my next barrel just to be safe.
