105 AMAX

Orite chaps, ime shooting a 243 Akley and using the 105 Amax..ime sending it at 3.100 ftps at the moment with 45 grains of vit 165..this is just a little hard on my brass, but was just wondering what speed does this bullet really need to go to be at its best,,cheers simon

45gr of N165 is a pretty light load. Im surprised its hard on your brass on a 243 AI. What is happening to your brass? Primer pockets or is it case head separation? You should be right around 50,000PSI which is not a hot load. That is if your not shoving your bullet way into the case. ( what is your OAL?) Is this in a Bolt action Rifle? Something does not add up here.

Forgot to add I have seen fellow 6SLR shooters shooting there Hybrids at 3100+ with great results. I happen to be running mine just under 3100. 3085fps ish. They are using N160.

I run em 3100 in a straight 243 with no problem with H4350. Your AI should be fine at that velocity. Maybe try a slower burn rate powder. 48ish grains of H-1000 should give you around 3100-3150 and not be hot in an AI.

I'm running a 32" barrel with 45.5gr N-165 in a SLR with Win cases, 3150 fps. Very accurate. The N-165 went up to 47gr without pressure issues but I was crunching the powder way more than I liked and it wasn't as accurate anywhere there as the 45.5 node.

With the .234 A, you should probably be just a little bit higher velocity I would think.

i use 45 grains of vit 165 seated at 2.730..i get a good four or five shots then the brass does go a bit tighter,,the primers are spot on.

Your going to have to explain a little more than that. Are you saying you get 4 or 5 reloads before you need to Full Length size? But your Primers are still tight? How is this HARD on brass. Sounds like heaven to me. Or is there a miss match of Chamber dimension to FL die and not overall pressure giving the impression that your brass is being blown out to much when in fact its the sizing die not doing its job?

This is still not adding up. Your going to have to give a little more detail if you want or need some help.

OK,ive used 6ppc all my life so the 243 ai is new to me,i get 4 or 5 firings with the load i mentioned just neck sizing the cases, then the brass is slightly stiff to eject then put back in so i then full length re size the brass, its lapua...the primers on some cases i can tell are slightly slacker to put back in.but looking back it was an hot few weeks of weather we had so that could that make pressures easier to reach, cheers simon

I'm at 49g of H-!000 ( fill er' up ) doing 3150 with 105 HyBreds ( yeah I spell it that way ) very accurate with zero pressure jumping 6K. Can't use to much H-1000 in the 243AI with out a 5" drop.... 8)
