I am going to ask the board of directors at Williamsport this year to have a vote on allowing a 1 1/8” stamp or sticker to be placed directly above but not covering up the X on a match target. This should be available for any shooter who would request it. I believe that with the quality of rifles and components available today, smaller groups should prevail. I feel that by aiming at something smaller than a 4”/4” white patch under certain environmental conditions could help the competitive shooter. Input please.

I just aim at the white printed number 10 above the patch on decent days. I most times even forget where I'm sighted lol, but I try for group at whatever cost to score....just how I'm programmed I suppose.

Color yet to be decided. I’m a big proponent of aim small miss small. Just didn’t know how it would effect the community. Should be fair for everyone.

Just feel under certain circumstances, not all the time, a smaller point of aim could be helpful. Smaller spotters are acceptable why not a smaller point of aim.

I definitely understand what you're going for and would definitely support it. It may not help us much at williamsport lol but I think the groups are getting smaller and smaller. Scopes better, the patch is a little big at 40+ power. (I haven't looked at it with under 40x, could still seem big at 32x) I feel this would be considered forward progress.

I'm not a benchrest shooter but I can say that in NRA long range we are not allowed to mark our target in any way, we have to shoot it the way it's printed. Rather than altering targets you may be better off pursuing your sanctioning body for a smaller aiming center. It would be a shame to shoot a record group on an altered target and have it turned down by the sanctioning organization.

Sorry, but I'll be the nay-sayer. I see the blue with the buff center and, like @tom , I aim at the middle. I don't see some colors well and the orange clay birds on a dirt bank, as so many matches use for sighters, I have difficulty picking out those clays when the mirage gets up strong.
SO I just don't see a 1 1/8" dot helping me at all.

basically Williamsport IS the sanctioning body for Williamsport, and a couple others, but not many.

My 1000 experience is very limited - but I just use the center X as an aim point. If I remember correctly, the center X is 1.25 inches across (diagonal) ??

Just use the corner of the 4" square. Then your shooting at a very small spot. I know a few who do that.
