1000 yards in Louisiana. Looking to gauge interest in a new private range.

The opportunity to develop a 1000 yard range in Louisiana has recently been given thought and I would like to get feedback from those who might be interested in joining such a club.

At this time the longest range in the state is Palo Alto to 600y as far as I am aware.

This new range would be located in Ventress La. only a few minutes drive from the new Mississippi River bridge. Within a hours drive from Baton Rouge I would say.

This would be a limited membership club with a cap limit yet to be determined. Memberships would cost $300 a year.

Plans would include a nice covered firing line with benches. A scoring pit at 1000y and variety of Silhouette shooting types. Pistol ranges could also be considered and easily included. Basically it all boils down to not having a nice place to shoot out to 1000 yards and also no place to shoot steel HP Silhouette.

So please if any of you are in the area are interested let me hear from you here or feel free to email me at dja1070@hotmail.com.

Or if you know someone that lives in this area that shoots F-Class, Long Range Benchrest or just wants a club to shoot at they can actually join in the near future but doesn't get online pass the word.

Any and all comments or suggestions welcome.

EDIT *****NOTE***** Please email me or dustinflint@yahoo.com to show your interest and so we can collect the email of potential members for a list. We are getting more interest faster than we imagined and would like to compile a list for the future. Thanks!

Thanks,

Bo

Here is a picture of the land. As you can tell it is prime for long range shooting. I took this one day when we were practicing HP Silhouettes shooting at swingers. The white spots you see out there are paper backers and under them are the even smaller white animal dots you can hardly see. That longest one to the right is the Ram at 550 yards. So you can see this piece of flat, clear cut land goes a long way to the back wood line.

I drive all the way from Fl once a month to shoot Palo Alto. An organized 1KD range for competition would be fantastic IMO. When you say an hour from Baton Rouge is that north south?

It's to the general north of Baton Rouge. Right off the River Road. Very easy to get to location once you learn where to go.

Thanks for the reply.. So far I have had a few people showing positive interest.

Id be very interested, especially if you are going to host montly matches like at Palo Alto. I have sent you an email.

I attend the matches at Palo Alto very regularly and would be very interested in matches held at 1000. I don't think you'd have any trouble finding interest in your range. The state championship (prone/F-class, 3 day match) is being held at palo alto the 1st weekend of october and has been sold out (60 shooters) for over 6 weeks already.

Any match selling out over 2 months before hand and having a waiting list to fill last minute cancellations is a testament to shooter participation in the area.

If it gets up and running, I dont think you would really see much difference in time to get there.

I agree if you blow past the exit on the Interstate you normally took to to PA and headed on in the time it took to get to PA you would be close to Ventress. Maybe 30 minutes more I would bet at best.

Holy Smokes! I would be very interested, as well as about 30-40 other sling and F-Class shooters that shoot at Palo Alto for the monthly Mid Range and monthly F-PR Match. That would be awesome to have a 1000yard range close to Baton Rouge. You'd draw plenty of people.
