1000 Yard Bench Rest Using a 223

Cole,
Just think what a guy shooting a 100# 338 Lapua Mag. using 300 grain bullets feels when he get beat by a shooter with a 16# 223 using 90 grain bullets.

Can't say that I know of any 100# 338 Lapua Mag's in competition but have seen 20# and 30# 338 Lapua's lose regularly to the small 6mm's and 6.5's. Those 300gr .338's do fly nice when the lighter bullets stumble....say at ~1400 yards..?

Tell me about your 223 in 1000 yard bench rest shooting. Agging real nice?

Jerry, I was shooting 6BR and IMP at 1000 yds when only a few were shooting them. Now they are beating the big guys regularly. I have shot a 223 at 1000yds in a Win. Varmint gun. The 223 is a fun round to shoot longrange.

Jerry - at my favorite non sanctioned match, the HardRock in Alabama, the classes are divided into the combined .223/.308 class (basically F/TR), factory chamber class (standard chamberings other than .223/.308 of case capacity .300 Winmag and below), and the anything goes class (wildcats .300 Winmag and below). It's a popular match, combines 600/800/900/1,000 yards, no sighters, and no wind flags just to make the wailing a little louder.

Last seasson, a .223 won one match outright much to everyones chagrin. Of course the shooter is capable of winning even with a BB gun on a good day. But he does have a really good .223.
