Local club had a rimfire match indoor 50 yd--I went-did good --now going back --they have indoor 100 yd centerfire run what you brung--Yes I will be up against the pros but I have a new Savage 8T 6BR and want to give it a go--Have done no loads yet --just got it--What bullet is good starting point? I have a pile of Varget. I need a few choices as local inventory can be dicey--
Thanks gang

A stout load of varget might do ok with 80's. I've never been a fan of it with lighter bullets. I'd try about 32 gr of n135 and 68's at +/- just touching, if you can reach the lands with the 68's. A few of those savages are surprisingly accurate but you'll probably need to spend a bit of time extracting all you can from it with load work.

Varget and Sierra 107 MK is a standard try it out load with your combination.
Or 87 VMAX works extremely well in my 8T 6 BR

Sierra’s do shoot pretty well.

If you could lay your hands on some Berger 80's they do very well with a stout load of Varget. (I too used Varget because that's all I had). I'm sure Bart's would do good too but they are not to be had right now. Lacking this I would fall back to Gunsandgunsmithing's suggestion on 68's. Seems like flat bases are little easier to tune.

Yes an 80gn Berger (or Barts) with 27 grains IMR XBR 8208 (or Varget) and CCI 450’s would be ideal but with no jackets for 80’s in existence and scarce 8208 powder you may have hopes to put together a Varget Sierra load to get you in the running at least.
Sign of the times unfortunately.
