While we're talking about Wyoming, if you haven't been through Cody to visit the firearms museum at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, you're missing out. There's also a little range in town that has rentals of everything from flintlocks to machine guns to a proper gatling gun.

Do you know which areas have interest in development?
There will be no shortages of cities/counties interested in the project - this is a big deal. The next step right now is the task force getting put together. Then the task force will develop a framework for the selection of the location, develop preliminary specifications - plans - features and develop a request for proposals. That will take time, once proposals are received the task force will review them and make recommendations to the Governor and legislative communities. The task force terminates June 30, 2026.

We're a small state population wise, in fact the smallest, less than 600k... I think one of the major issues for many communities is a lack of infrastructure (ie. motels, restaurants, stores, gas stations, air service, etc.).
Some obvious communities (cites with 10k or more) are Cheyenne (65k #1 in size), Casper, Gillette, Laramie, Rock Springs, Sheridan, Evanston, Green River, Jackson, Riverton and Cody (each will have their own +/-) . The following cities have more than 5k less than 10k; Lander, Powell, Douglas and Torrington. We have 23 counties, 8 with less than 10k and another 4 with less than 20k.

Wyoming firearm manufacturers just some highlights:
Cheyenne: Magpul, StagArms & Thunder Beast
Rock Springs: Kal-Tec
Sheridan: Weatherby
Laramie: Hi Viz Sights
Cody: Gunwerks, Best of the West, Wyoming Armory, Wyoming Arms...

The govenor, legislature, etc are promoting Wyoming to the firearm industry. The proposed shooting complex would be considered part of the effort as well as promoting tourism. A complex that would support high profile competitions and draw nationally and possibly internationally. A couple of competitions that Wyoming currently has that are well known are the Magpul Wyoming Govenor's Match (3 gun & pistol pcc) that has been held since 2017 in Cheyenne, Cody and Casper. Another is the One Shot Antelope Hunt since 1940.

Cheyenne would be basically be Denver, I would hope it gets upstate to Casper at least.

I’d move back to Cheyenne tomorrow if I could. And the State of WY is sitting on a pile of money, so this $10m isn’t a huge expense for them.

Yes. It is a nice range and expandable too. Good accommodations nearby and sort of owned/operated by the city.
There has not been any competitions at the 1000 yard range going on two years, due to the small group (one man) that has made it happen. They also have 10 Silver Mountain Electronic Targets.

They evidently have named the task force but no news of whom they are.

I would love to help with this project. You would be surprised how little 10 million dollars will go in building a shooting range, especially if you have to buy the land. And for shooting ranges it is not like you can just buy any land, there are certain topography features that are key to have for developing a shooting range on. I will be following this closely.
