10/22

I have a question for the 10/22 experts.
Have you seen any change of accuracy when using the factory pin vs a polymer pin?

I believe he is referring to the pin through the back of the receiver that is behind the bolt and holds the bolt in. I personally have never tried one.

No.

I made my own from 1/4in dia hardware store stock. Factory should have switched to these a long time ago. Much easier on all the action components.

Ammo will make a much bigger difference. Try all brands until you find the one your gun likes.

Thanks for the replies. Those were my thoughts but fairly new to fine tuning for accuracy.

In some cases the action timing will be changed and cause failures, per KIDD. I found that to be accurate and run the OEM steel pin. Better function in my setup. I don't shoot HV and don't worry about the hole enlarging. Currently have well over 15,000 rounds through mine with no pin hole issue.

KIDD makes a buffer, but not a nylon pin. They claim the nylon flexes when hit and increases bolt speed going forward. This is what causes the feeding issue, round pick up from the magazine.

Been running several 10/22's using nylon buffer pins. No problems. Pins were made from the shank of long 1/4" nylon bolts from the hardware store. I'm only shooting CCI SV or better ammo, no HV stuff. Good accuracy.

For Repeatable, 10-22 "Accuracy", Buy, a Green Mountain Barrel and Use,.. Mid-Priced, SK, Standard Plus or Wolf Match Extra, Ammo or a Good Lot of CCI SV ! ( A GOOD Trigger,. IS, a Must, also ! )
I Like the Nylon, "Pins" ( They might Be KIDD made, IIRC but,, IDK ? ) Smooth function & Quiet !
Built the Rifle 4-5 years ago, so can't remember Whose Pins, I Used ( No issues, EVER )

My very expensive (name withheld to protect the guilty) 10/22 would not feed or extract reliably (or at all with some ammo) with either type of pin.
Problem turned out to be a "Bentz" chamber. Way too tight for semi-auto. I bought a "Sporting" reamer from Brownell's and problem solved. Opened up chamber mouth about .003in. Brass diameter just ahead of the rim can vary between ammo brands. There is no reason for a Match or Bentz chamber in a semi-auto. And the change did not affect accuracy.
If you want a target .22, use a bolt gun.

I have a bentz chamber in two 1022's both feed just fine. Accuracy can mean different things to different folks to some it might mean minute of watermelon ,for others it might mean 10x on a target.

Yeah, a TINY Bit of Polishing with, JB's slathered, on a Patch, OVER, a Bronze Brush, Fixed the "Grabbie'ness" of, ammo in My Green Mtn Barrel's Chamber, easily, w/ just a few, one way, Strokes and CLEAN,.. Well !
Live Round Extraction "Problem",.. CURED as, the Rifling AT, "Throat",.. HAS,.. Sharp edges !
Sub 1/2 inch Accuracy @ 50 yds, No Problem with, the Green Mtn Barrel and Mid-Priced, SK and Wolf Ammo !

Short of a target barrel change, the best low-cost accuracy improvement is replacing the hammer with the Volquartsen target hammer kit. It will transform the trigger action immensely. Also, aluminum tape bedding the action to the stock made an enormous difference in accuracy to my 1960's era 10/22. The bedding process is outline on the RFC website.
