10/22 triggers

I recently got a new laminate stock and a new barrel for a bargain. You know, it is one of those things you just can't pass up. I guess i am going to have to buy the cheapest 10/22 i can find to use the comeplete action and trigger group for this stock and barrel. I am just going to use this for squirrel hunting and small things. The only thing i want to do is to get a decent trigger for this. I am not interested in buying 1 of the premier companies comeplete trigger assembly, just a trigger group that i could install and make the rifle a little more enjoyable to shoot. Their seems to be a lot to pick from and i am hoping some of you fellows could steer me in the right direction to getting something that i can install and works like it is supposed to. Thanks.........DAN

dtucker...There ain't no drop-in triggers that are cheap. On my 10/22,I worked on the trigger myself and got it down to a lil over 2lbs. I put a Kidd trigger in my grandson's 10/22 target rifle and it operates at abt 7ozs,BUT it cost $300. I don't have any experience with the after market parts...they claim 2.5lb trigger pulls...I don't know. The Timney 2.5lb trigger at $129 actually was recently tested by a magazine to be closer to 3lbs. Good luck....gpoldblue

i put the volquartsen trigger kit in my 10/22. it took most of the creep out and cut the pull weight down to about 2.5 lbs. well worth the $50. very simple install. if you want the best go with the kidd.

I sent mine off to TT Shooter for one of his Precision Trigger Jobs. It was a few bucks over $100.00 and worth every penny. Mine is 2 pounds and super crisp. I also had TT Shooter do the Autobolt Modification to mine and add the Overtravel Stop.

My Son in Law has a Volquartsen TG2000 that cost twice as much as my TT Shooter Complete Trigger Job and the Volquartsen isn't nearly as good (crisp or light) as my TT Shooter Trigger Job.

It really depends on what you want. I bought a Power Custom hammer and it dropped the weight to 3lb or so. Somehow, the factory sear and this hammer have an extremely crisp pull and I didn't have to mess with the sear. It certainly isn't near a Kidd trigger, but I think I spent $30 total. I'm sure you could get a lighter pull but as is I find it to be a perfect hunting rifle trigger. If you still have creep, an adjustable sear, which is another $30 or so, allows you to dial most all of the creep out. For a hunting rifle, I would pick up the two and be done with trigger work.

There is a guy in Connecticut that used to work for Ruger that did a number of 10/22 triggers for our group some years ago, charged 45$ and we have 6oz. triggers. I'll see if I still have his contact info around.

Thanks Roger for the help. Their is a mountain of after market stuff for the 10/22s and you can drive your self crazy trying to decide on stuff. ???

Getting a 6oz trigger has its benefits, but I don't know of anyone who would choose it for a squirrel rifle. If its a target only gun 6oz works, but please be careful out in the field if that is the route you go.

I hear ya, no 6 ounce triggers for me out in the field hunting. I usally do not go below 2 pounds and if i have gloves on during the winter i have my trigger finger cut out so i can feel the trigger.

+1 for Randy. His work is excellent.

I've had him do one for me and two for a friend's kids 10/22's. All three right at 2# and feel so much better than the drop-in stuff. Find an older, all metal 10/22 trigger group if you can, results in lighter pull if desired.

I had a similar experience using just a Volquartsen hammer. It made a really decent field trigger.

Plus 3 for Randy. He can make you a dandy rifle. I had him do 2 for me just like Switchbarrel says his work is excellent
