10/22 tirger reset problem

I apologize if this has been covered. I looked but didn't a thread that covered the issue.

I have a 10/22 I bought used. at the range the trigger would not consistently reset. It might work there times in a row then not reset. By reset the trigger does not return and fore. I work the bolt and it does. Worse sometimes trying to "work the trigger" it goes off. I assume there is an adjustment or repair that will make it reliable. There is a set screw in the trigger to limit travel. Not sure if that is a part of the issue.

Thanks again

Dennis

Unfortunately, with a used 10/22, you don't know what internals are in the trigger group to begin with - if they aren't original factory parts (a large percentage of 10/22 owners are inveterate tinkerers), the answer can get more complicated. You might want to post your question in the 10/22 action forum at Rimfire Central (http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/index.php) and/or do a search there for "10/22 trigger won't reset". Just reading a couple of the answers in that collection will give you an idea of how aftermarket and modified stock or aftermarket parts in the trigger group can cause tempermental performance with trigger reset.

It sounds like someone at some point tried to install a custom trigger or other "fire control" parts in the hope or quest for a better trigger pull. The simplest fix would be to get the new trigger group from Ruger. It's called the BX trigger and it is not bad. The cost of the individual factory stock parts to put it back to factory specs would likely exceed the cost of the drop in BX trigger group.
You could of course try to back out the trigger over travel screw and see if that allows it to reset...if so, run the screw in a little at a time until it quits again and just back it out some until it works again. Maybe everything is right and just out of adjustment.

How light is the trigger? If they cut or replaced the return spring, it may not be strong enough for a consistent reset. I have had good luck with power custom trigger kits, smooths things out and give you about a 3.5 lb trigger

This is NOT a new problem. I had a 10/22 that did the exact same thing. I had to order a whole new trigger assembly from Ruger and have it installed by a gunsmith. And I know of 2 others that have had the same issue.

Call Ruger and inform them of the issue and see what they have to say to you about it.WD
