Why a twist that fast?
Millard, you don’t need that fast twist. We used to shoot to 350 yds with 1:16, subsonic target stuff at 1040-1080. Shots followed the wind appropriately. No need to reinvent the wheel

The only reason you need a twist like that is if you plan on shooting a lot of 60gr Aguila SSS rounds. That twist won't help you at all with standard velocity or subsonic rounds of 40gr and under - been there, tested that to death. The fast twist works fine with the Aguila SSS 60gr rounds, but is average at best for anything else. And you may get lucky with a normal 1 in 16" twist barrel and the Aguila SSS round; I have one normal twist .22rf rifle that tolerates it from an accuracy standpoint. With the rest, the 50 yard groups open up anywhere from 1/4+ inches to one match .22 rifle that patterns with the Aguila SSS round rather than grouping.

it wont help me, but will it harm me??? also, I plan on shooting some 42-45 grain subsonic and yes, the 60 grain SSS. thanks all
Yes, based on my testing of many rounds through a fast twist barrel put on my dedicated Aguila SSS barreled 10/22, it will keep you from attaining the best accuracy any round other than the 60gr Aguila is capable of giving. As a matter of interest, the two ammos the fast twist barrel liked the least were a box of STD velocity and a box of subsonic. Both these ammos performed better in other standard twist barreled rifles in the test program. If you want to shoot a lot of 60gr Aguila, build a fast twist 10/22. That will give you a good excuse to build a second 10/22 with a 1 in 16 twist for more normal ammo.
Based on my experience at 50 and 100 yards, I wouldn't waste good match ammo in a fast twist barrelled rifle at those or any ranges, but like a normal twist rate 22 barrel, the fast twist barrels have preferences (even though you are outside what they are designed for), so you may find one that it likes. Then the question that only you can answer is does it like it well enough to make it worth the extra $$, compared to the performance with 60gr ammo. Good luck on your quest and have fun.
