10/22 - barrel/receiver fit to tight.

Son has an Tactical Solutions Elite22 10/22 receiver and a Green Mountain barrel.
The rcvr hole is about 0.010 smaller than barrel shank diameter!
Any ideas how to get them to fit?
Tried heating the rcvr but no luck. Don’t have a lathe.
Tactical Solutions said to sand down barrel but I’m hoping there’s a better way.

.010 is a huge mismatch! Even if you heat the receiver and freeze the barrel and somehow get it together, the receiver will most likely crack. One of the manufacturers missed the mark. Figure out who and ask them to make it right. Good luck.

The barrel tenon should be 11/16”. Figure out which one, the receiver or the barrel, is out of spec. Then, you can get that particular supplier to address the problem.

What are the tenon and reciever measurements? The reciever should be .688" plus a little, and the barrel should be .688" minus a little

Digging a little deeper the TS installation guide says the rcvr is made small on purpose so the barrel, regardless of manufacturer, will need to be fitted to the rcvr. They recommend 200 grit sand paper!

IF you measured correctly and it's actually .010" of interference, find someone with a lathe. By the time you remove 10 thou with sandpaper that tenon won't be round, straight, or concentric.
Your arms may have fallen off, too.

It should be fairly easy to fit the barrel using a strip of sandpaper or crocus cloth. If your measurement of .010 is correct you will only have to remove .005 to fit it. I did the same thing a few years ago with a Green Mountain barrel and Ruger receiver. Took me about 20 minutes. Test fit often to avoid removing too much.

the best solution is to find a MOA stainless receiver threaded. thread a barrel. good luck finding a receiver -out of business for years

I did the same thing a few years ago with a Green Mountain barrel and Ruger receiver. Took me about 20 minutes. Test fit often to avoid removing too much.

That’s pretty much what we did. Was able to uniformly remove just enough and keep the shank perfectly round. Required heat to get the barrel to fit. Couldn’t ask for a better fit.
