1" vs 30mm Scope

Just a couple ? on optics. I have always heard that a 30mm tube will let more light in than a 1" tube. I have no facts to support this other than the tube is bigger. I see a bunch of comments online on this topic but no facts. Also i heard that a 1" tube the most light it can let thru is with a 42mm objective lens. Is this a fact? And does anyone know what size objective for a 30mm tube lets the max light in. Thanks guys i hope someone can share some facts on optics.

A 30mm tube will not allow any more light than a 1" tube. The advantage of a 30mm tube is the possibility of increasing the usable adjustment range of elevation and windage. The increase of brightness is an old wives tale. Physics dictate this!

McKinney is 100% correct. The diameter of the objective lens is what determines how much light can come through the tube.
