I shoot the mile at Thunder Valley all the time with my 6.5 Creedmoor, 135 A-Tips, at 2750 fps, and it has no problem making it that far. The problems arise if the wind is above 10 mph as it pushes my bullets so far that I sometimes can't see the splash. What is the smallest 6.5mm cartridge suitable for hitting a gong at 1 mile?
Please specify what size gong you are thinking of.
That looks the the Oregon coast range! My 260 did quite decent
20” target.
Also 6.5manbun from bolt action and gasser’s do pretty decent.

Yes sir. That looks the the Oregon coast range!
That was my first thought but I am hoping to avoid a long action.12", a 6.5-284. KISS principle.
My 6.5CM needs 83.5 moa for a mile, 20 moa base, 20 moa mount, and a Razor Gen 3 6-36. I could get past 2k yards with my setup pretty easily but in reality the 6.5CM is a 1500 yard rifle at best.I would be interested in what MOA scope base you need and and how much MOA your coming on scope up for totally MOA needed for I mile
.260 Rem / .060 FB / 1'30" leadeThat was my first thought but I am hoping to avoid a long action.
Arturo Fuentes are my favorite! But not the maduro wrapper. My 260 did quite decent
20” target.
