How do you find the precision with those 77 RDFs? I've been thinking about giving them a run in a gas gun. However, I've loaded the 85 RDFs for an F-TR bolt rifle and the precision seemed to be so-so, usually a flier or two in almost every group. My understanding is that the 85s might do better seated at ~.050" off the lands, but I haven't tested them that far off at this point. Just curious about the 77s, they look awesome on paper.
Shot the 77RDF at 300 yds rapid fire during a 4 day match last weekend. Out of a possible 700 points (200 on thurs, fri, sat and 100 sunday) I dropped 9, rapid fire in 4 days using AR-15, 20" 7tw barrel service rifle 4.5 power leupold scope. Mag length, LC brass, cci 450, and 26.6g 2000mr.
Shot the 85 RDF at 600 yds, 40k off the lands all 4 days. If memory serves correctly, 2.365 OAL in my gun. Shot very well. Quite capable of holding the 6" X ring at 600. LC brass, cci 450, 26.7g 2000mr.
Temps were in the 90's every day and had no issues with above load data. Took a photo of 1 rapid fire prone group and it's about an inch tall at 300. The 85's at 600 have a big advantage over any 80 class bullet requiring less wind adjustment. RDF's might not give the smallest groups but out of a service rifle we shoot at generous targets and after a fair amount of testing, I'm confident both loads above will deliver 1/2 min groups easily. Additionally, I'm testing with a 4.5 power scope.
To answer your question fully, I've shot the 70, 77, and 85 RDF in 22 cal. The 105 and 115 RDF in 6mm. The 130 and 140 in 6.5mm. 175 and 210 in 30 cal and 300g in 338 Lapua Mag. I have never loaded an RDF bullet less than 40k off the lands. They love to jump. In my 6mm bolt gun I'm at 65k off the lands. They seemed to shoot really well there.
We're finding they like to be spun fast too. Min 7 twist in 22 cal. 6mm been using 7.5 twist but a friend is using a 7. 6.5mm I have a 7.75 krieger but same friend bought a 7 twist and it devours the 140's. He shot a 200 with 17x prone in a sling at 600 recently. 30 cal are 10 twist. 338 is a krieger 9.35 twist.
