1-8 twist will it shoot 55g projectiles

Hi all I have a new1-8 twist 223 barrle on the way to try 80g and 75g projectiles want to know if I can shoot 55g threw it aswell ?

That will probably depend on several factors.

If the bbl is a production bbl and on the rough side - maybe not as it could tear the jackets.

The choice of bullets (construction) jacket thickness.

If you go to Dan Liljas site, he has a nice 3 minute video that shows a really sad factory bore that could give you some idea of what could be happening to your jacket as it accelerates to speed in nano seconds.

All in all, I'd think it would be doable in general. If it were a 22-250, you may have to throttle back if the above conditions were present.......a 223, not so much.

You would probably get better results with the heavier bullets but by loading you own I'm sure you will find a load for the 55 grainers. My buddy has a 1-8 twist and we found a load for the 55 grain v-max that is very accurate....his rifle puts these bullets into a .3 and .4 groups consistently and he is very happy with this load. I have mentioned he try these at all distances he plans on shooting as this accuracy was at 100 yards only and he needs to see the long range results also. I say try them and see what your rifle likes. :)

My 1:9 Savage barrel shoots everything from 30gr. to 80gr. bullets well.
I don't see why you would have a problem.

Just food for thought = why not the 53gr VMax with the better BC?
It requires a 12 sez Hornady and I'm guessing it is built for speed at distance so could well fit your parameters.

Your 1/8 twist will/should have no problems running the 40g to 55g pills w/no issue.
I ran the 40g vmax in my 1/8 rig for a long time & very accurate at 4300 fps.
