1-8 pacnor barrels & 105g Amaxs

Hi Guys

sometime reading stuff can be to much >:(
but ive come across a few people having bullet failures with 105g amaxs & pacnor barrels!

Are any of you guys getting good acuracy with pacnors & 105's?

Ive got one thats going to be screwed on next month but im a little woried that they wont work & its the only bullet im realy woried about working ::)

i also see plenty of mention of 237vs 236 bore diameter being a isue with pacno being the tighter side!

if you guys could but me at ease ill carry on & get it fitted!

cheers Andy

anyone use amax with good results?

if so the make of tube & bore diameter would be helpful too:-)
cheers Andy

Andy,
I have had good luck with Shilen, standard 4 groove 8 twist and Bartlein 5r 8 1/4 twist with the 105 Amaxes with a 6mm Creedmoor (same capacity as a 243 Win). Not sure on the bore dia. but I believe the Bartlein is a .236".If you are putting on a hand lapped PacNor I think you'll get along fine with it. If the barrel isn't lapped you may or may not have issues with them blowing up.

thanks james

ive read a fair few blow up problems wit them & amax's with my trawlng thru the web!

so have played it safe!
found a chap that had some bartliens instock so phoned them(bartlien) ased them what they would recomend!

they said a 237 woud be best!

so thats what ive got coming!

cheers Andy

I shoot A max's through my Pac nor 4 groove 1 in 8 twist chambered in 6x47 which Neil(Dasherman) put on for me.
The rifle now has digested 1200 rounds without any failures.
Go shoot and enjoy.

Alot of the problem guys have with bullets blowing up out of Pac-Nor barrels is not due to the barrel gualits as much as it it that they used Pac-Nor for the 3 groove barrel.

3 groove barrels have been proven to be harder on thin skinned bullets than barrel with 4, 5, and 6 grooves.

I ran a 1-8 twist 3 groove Lilja on a 243Ai and it would have bullets failures if I pushed them to hard. The barrel was amazingly accurarte and never fouled but the bigger lands stressed the thin jackets alot.

Personaly I like 5R barrels and have been able to push thin jacketed bullets alot harder from them with less failure trouble

Honestly, I don't see that there is any particular basis for a suggestion that bullet blow ups might occur from using a PacNor barrel. I have used a lot of 6mm 1:8" PacNor barrels on my own rifles and for customers, and used 105 A-Max bullets in them and I cannot say I ever had a bullet blow up in a PacNor. Did someone have one that they had bullet blow ups in? Probably. Does that mean PacNor barrels have a higher likelihood of bullet blow ups than other barrels? Not necessarily. Most of the bullet blow ups you hear about are from people doing crazy things like running a 6mm/284 and running bullets at absolutely obscene velocities, and the blow ups have nothing to do with the bullets or the barrel.

I have to agree with Mr. Whitley... the notion that these bullets are blowing up (If indeed there is any basis of truth at all) has nothing to do with the brand of barrel or bullets. If an 8" twist is causing a 105 to fail, it is because it is being shot ridiculously fast.
