1/8" or 1/4" dot for varmints to 500 yds?

For varmint hunting with a .204 to 450 or so yards would your (experienced) preference be for fine crosshair, 1/8 or 1/4 minute dot? Those are the choices available in the SIII 8 - 32 x 56 and I can get a $60 discount on one with the 1/4 minute dot compared to the others.

I would personally get the 1/8". On my Sightron I changed out the 1/4" dot because it was too big, it cost me over a $100 for the conversion, so $60 bucks more is a deal.

My Weaver 6-24 has a 1/8" varmint dot, it works excellent on small rodents at 400 yards in my experience.

I agree go with the 1/8 dot, out past 600 the fine x-hairs are even better.

Burris Signature Select (American-Made) has 1/8" adjustments, so if accuracy is paramount, it doesn't get better at reasonable price. Talking $650 may sound tough on the pocketbook, but why spend enormous dollars working up to desired quality, like me.

I've burned through five scopes of inadequate quality for what I really needed for where I am now at 100 to 300 yards. Solid performance costs $650. The price will never likely get cheaper, and it keeps going up, so why wait? Cliffy

1/8 dot- by experience. I had a 8-24X sightron w/ 1/f4 moa dot, switched to a nightforce a/ 1/8 and what a difference even though I was shooting paper.
