1:12 Twist, 22-250 what is the heaviest accurate load!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

I have been told if I have a 1:12 I can't shoot anything over 55. Any truth? I would like to load heavier rounds but I hear it's not happening. I should have got 1:8 twist. it's a Savage 12 FV@@ 22-250

According to Berger's Quick Reference chart you can shoot their 64 gr. Match Varmint in a 1:12 twist barrel. Its more the length of the bullet than the weight determining whether or not it will shoot in your barrel. Some others 60 gr. bullets will probably shoot and some won't. The 60 gr. Vmax requires a 1:10 twist to stabilize.

I think you need a 12 twist to stabilize a lot of the 55s to be candid. I can never get a 55 grain Ballistic tip or Vmax to shoot as good as a 40 or a 50 no matter what I try in my 14 twist 22-250. I could not stabilize 60 grain Partitions in my 14 twist 220 Swift either. I think you can stabilize the 69 grain SMK with the 12 twist though.

I know the Savage 12 twist will shoot the 65g Sierra GK very well. A longer bullet like the 69g SMK will be iffy and dependent on how hard you can push them among other factors.

The 60g V-max should be fine in a 12 twist at 22-250 velocities.

I can tell you that a 1-10 twist 22-250 AI won't stabilize a 62 gr Barnes
TSX but it will stabalize a 60 gr partition. Length is a big deal as the Barnes is considerably longer. My 12 twist 223 will shoot 60 gr partions BARELY. My guess is that you'll be in 55 gr bullets, if you want a tougher bullet look at the 50 gr Barnes TSX. It will kill deer -no sweat.
