High Mechanical Advantage Press Question Conclusion

Just wanted to thank those who tried to answer my question in my original post https://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/press-with-the-highest-mechanical-advantage.4149466/ and offered ideas. As stated in the earlier thread, I chose to start as cheap as possible and see where that took me...

    Felt recoil between powders

I'm guessing that your velocities were higher with your 4895 loads too. Pressure higher even though grains the same. All powders do not burn at the same rate or pressure curves.

    Teslong borescope issues?

My apologies...I was thinking of the app I used to use - Mo-View. I now use "Endoscope Camera" on my Android devices. Sorry for the confusion.

    Teslong borescope issues?

^^^This. I use it on android devices too. No problems.

Press with the highest mechanical advantage?

New handle ordered. Starting at the cheapest end and working up if needed.

    Nosler Varmageddon vs. Hornady Vmax

I admit to not experimenting with other brands much, especially after I find what works best for my rifles, but the Hornadys I shoot now are the most accurate I have fired in any of my rifles - 25-grain VMAX - 17 Remingtons, 52-grain AMAX - .22/250 Remington, 53-grain VMAX - .223 Remingtons...

    204 Dogtown Brass

Like Mike said, Midway. I recently bought some of the Dogtown brass in .243 Winchester. Price was good and I currently use Nosler brass for this caliber anyway. A random check showed cases to be uniform in length and necks were very uniform in thickness. Weight varied only +- 2 grains but most...

Press with the highest mechanical advantage?

Good thoughts, but the issue occurs when the body of the case is being engaged but the expander is no longer even in contact at that point.

Press with the highest mechanical advantage?

Yes, it does. I'll look into that too. I just ordered an upgraded 'roller' type handle for my press. Decided to spend as little as possible first and then consider other things if needed. As to the lube - I certainly haven't tried everything out there, but I have tried Imperial, the old RCBS on...

    Old Tasco Varmint scope questions

Yep...still have one but lost the chart that supposedly loosely told you what drum to use for each caliber/cartridge combo. Not bad scopes for their day.

    Lots of info there! Thanks!

Press with the highest mechanical advantage?

That's a thought. Used to live there in Lanark and still only live about 45 miles down the road from them. Might have to drop in and see what they have...assuming they still allow visitors.

    NRA for $20 per Year

Was a member for over 35 years. Only thing they ever did for me was send out a crappy magazine full of 'pat-on-the-back' self praise and a never ending stream of pleas for even more money. Once I dropped them, I got a steady barrage of calls with offers and other b.s. Last call was from some...

Press with the highest mechanical advantage?

Thanks for the good ideas. I'll give them a try. Probably should have broke a few less horses and been a little more careful with my hands and wrists when younger. At 75 it isn't going to get any better. Getting old ain't for sissies!

Press with the highest mechanical advantage?

Far too many years of abusing my hands is catching up to me. I have (and love) a Lee Cast press, but lately sizing anything bigger than .223 brass is becoming an effort with lingering pain. I can size my .17 Remingtons or .223s for hours with no issue, but from .22/250 on up, my hands soon pay...

Yep. That's what my wife literally just used to treat her several current and vintage boards.

    Heavier bullet less powder

Stop, take a deep breath and then thank the responders for their proper advice. Now go the the nearest loading reference and study it religiously. Not trying to be an a$$, but you really need schooling in the absolute basics. If you can find someone locally to mentor you that would be better yet.

What makes a powder not shoot good

Caliber, bullet weight and style, bore condition and etc? My only experience with BLC2 was years ago in a .222 and was a disaster. Pressure peaked way too early and was inconsistent.

    Accurate 2015 Lot to Lot??

Pretty much why I buy 8 pounds of any Accurate powder at a time. It always seems to shoot faster in my rifles than the charts would lead you to believe. AA2015 always hit my targeted speed at least 1 grain under chart values. AA2200 I use a lot and it is pretty close to chart. The real surprise...

    Carry advice

Same here. Changed to a 5" 629 and much more convenient. My shooting buddy questioned why I chose the 5"...I told him because it isn't the 4" or the 6". He's still scratching his head over that reasoning.
