  1. 22BR barrel life

Agree wholeheartedly. It’s about 5 grns more powder per shot than a 223 and more than 8 gns less than a 22-250.
  2. 22BR barrel life

Just to be clear, every barrel I have pulled still shot better than 1/2 MOA. I find there is a point where the groups get a little bigger and it won’t respond to tuning like it used to. At that point I take it off because it’s not competitive anymore for BR. If it’s a long barrel, I can usually...
  3. 22BR barrel life

1400 LR BR competitive rounds on average. Had one go at 1200. Had one that was still shooting at 1800 but I swapped it cause it made me nervous.
  4. and so it begins...6.5 gt

Seems like that has to be a full case although I guess ball powder does stack in more densely. How is it grouping so far?
  5. All this 20VT talk has me thinking

Yes, this was only for paper. It’s a gun I put together to have a cheaper option for practicing and “save” the big guns for competition. It changed my perspective so entirely that I now shoot a 22 PPC at 1000 and am trying a 222 out.
  6. All this 20VT talk has me thinking

Have you seen my thread from a ways back: https://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/my-20-vartarg-custom.3969176/ 55gn Berger and flirting with 1” groups at 600 yards even after 2000 rounds down the barrel. It has to be the most satisfying rifle I’ve ever shot. It is so consistent. EDIT...
  7. Rendezvous 5.0

I’m praying for pleasant weather and moderate temperatures since I’m bringing a tent to sleep in.
  8. 22 BR 90gn load suggestions

H4350 works really well too, if you have it. It’s a hot load, but 32gns H4350 under a 90 SMK has shot really well in 4 different barrels with different twist (7,7.7,8) and land (4 groove and 5R) configurations. The Atip has more bearing surface and will need to be loaded down some.
  9. 22 BR good bad ??

I shoot at 5000ft elevation and it works here with an 8 twist but by most calculators, it’s marginal. The Sierra 90gn is a little shorter and a safer bet. I have had equal or better results with the Sierra too.
  10. 22 BR good bad ??

There’s no reason to do a 14 twist. A 12 leaves nothing on the table and allows you to shoot a broad range of bullets better, including the 52/53gn boat tails that can be sometimes marginal in a 14 and are way better performers than any of the 50s. I am partial to a 7.7 twist with the 90gn...
  11. Athlon chronograph in stock

Ask @lancexxx here on the forum for a price on a new Garmin. He’s a dealer. The price difference is closer than you’re portraying it to be.
  12. Loading for a new barrel

I have a big pile of old, burned out barrels for my BR rifles and none of them did what you describe. They all sped up in the first hundred or so rounds but, if anything, pressure dropped in that time and they could take a little more once the speed stabilized.
  13. Accuracy king of the small cals?

Goes the other way too. The best node with a 90SMK in my 22BR was about 1gn and 100fps below max pressure. I spun up a 22 PPC that hits the same node just under max pressure. The PPC shoots arguably better, uses 2gns less Varget doing it, and the pressure is just right: high for consistency but...
  14. Accuracy king of the small cals?

Not always fill. Sometimes a powder shoots really well but you have to hammer the brass to get the right node. A little more capacity will allow you to hit the same node with the same powder at a few ksi less pressure and then your brass will last.
  15. Lapua 6 dasher brass!!!

Everybody complained that they needed to cut it down to work with their existing Lapua reamers.
  16. Still debating, 223 vs 22ARC

You could extrapolate from my 22 PPC loads: 2930fps with a 90 SMK. A 22 BR gets 3070fps of so. Both in 28” barrels. A 22 ARC is in the middle, capacity-wise. I haven’t heard of 223AI getting 2930 without trashing brass, but I have no direct experience with it.
  17. 20 Practical vs Tactical

No, there’s not. Look up the dimensioned diagrams. The shoulder on the Tactical is at 1.415” vs a 223 with the shoulder at 1.438”. You push the shoulder down and into a 30 degree configuration with the FL die in a single stroke, leaving the case ready to go and only needing as much fireforming...
  18. 22 BR 90gn load suggestions

I don’t think you will be able to get enough in there. H4350 maxes pressure right at lightly compressed loads. I couldn’t get enough RL16 in the case.
  19. 20 Practical vs Tactical

20 Tactical doesn’t require fire forming anymore than a 20 Practical does. The shoulder on the Tactical is at 1.415” vs a 223 with the shoulder at 1.438”. Forming 20 Tactical is as simple as lubing up a case and sizing it to push the shoulder down until it fits snugly in your chamber.
