  1. Belted Mag Headspace Question

Yes, the barrel is stamped 8mm Mag. Im going to try the scotch tape method on a factory round and do a chamber cast. Im not firing this thing until i know exactly what is what about it.
  2. Belted Mag Headspace Question

Barrel appears to be new through borescope. It must have been chambered to a case shoulder and not the belt. The go/no go gauges i bought are PTG.
  3. Belted Mag Headspace Question

The action is a Sako L61R. Yes, i had the rim of the gauge underneath the extractor. I pulled the bolt, slipped it under the extractor and tried to chamber multiple times. Bolt does not even begin to close on the Go gauge. I will get some scotch tape and try Preachers method with a factory round...
  4. Belted Mag Headspace Question

Im sorry, what i meant was that i could Not get the bolt to close on either gauge.
  5. Belted Mag Headspace Question

I have a rifle that someone apparently re-chambered to 8mm Rem Mag. It belongs to a friend of mine actually and he brought it to me to look over. I have no information on who did the chambering job. I ordered a set of Go and No Go gauges to check its headspace to make sure that it was safe to...
  6. 25-06 Berger 115 VLD

I shoot them in an old Remington 700 Varmint Special 10tw. Havent shot them at very long ranges but do know they they kill deer quite well.
  7. Rifle Basic Trigger Install questions

I have the exact same problem with this trigger. Hope someone has a fix because i cannot get anywhere close to the advertised lowest pull weight for this trigger safely.
  8. walking heavy varmint rig?

I have such a rifle. It is a trued 700 action with a 28" rem varmint tapered Krieger 8 twist chambered in 243 Ackley. It is in a HS Precision stock with a Nightforce 8-32br mounted in steel NF rings and a Jewell trigger. I shoot Berger 105 hybrids. I wouldnt change a damn thing. I can walk with...
  9. Deer Hunting, what is the perfect shot placement?

High shoulder shot. Never had one walk away from it. Miss forward and you hit the base of the neck = dead. Miss low and you have two broken shoulders = dead. Miss back and you pass through the chest cavity = dead. Miss high and you miss completely = no wounded deer.
  10. What's everyone shooting this year for deer?

    1. 7mm Dakota - Win 70 Krieger with 180 VLD 2. 25-06 - Rem 700 Varmint Special with 115 Berger VLD 3. 243 AI - Rem 700 Krieger with Berger 105 Hybrid
  11. What's the problem on making great chambers?

Another plus for Clay Spencer. The man is every bit as anal and picky as described. Perfect qualities for a gunsmith. If it ain't perfect, he wont do it.
  12. Midway announcement about lower shipping rates.

This is probably in response to people's displeasure with Midway's inflated shipping and handling charges. I have heard more than a few complaints about them. I also had a poor experience with their customer service that lead me to stop doing business with them. Ive heard both good and bad about...
  13. Laser rangefinder shopping. Need experience and help.

This is one purchase that you will kick yourself for going cheap on. I bought a Bushnell ARC 1500 and couldn't range anything consistently past 500 yards that wasn't a truck or a house. I sold it, bought a Leica 1600, and am extremely satisfied with it.
  14. Long Range Bullet

I cant speak much to the long range expansion of the hybrids. Longest live target was a small 450yd coyote. He was quartering away and shot behind the shoulder but he looked like he had a softball exit his chest.
  15. Long Range Bullet

The 105 hybrid Bergers have worked well for me on groundhogs, coyotes, foxes, and deer. All dead on impact with big exit wounds. I had one nearly cut a decent size red fox in half this weekend.
  16. Bedding a stock that already has pillars.

I would not put any torque on them at all. For curing, I would run the action screws in until I first begin to feel the slightest pressure, then back them off enough to ensure that no stress is being applied to the action. Then let the bedding cure while clamped upside down by the barrel in a...
  17. barrels

I was typing the same thing about Bruno's. They have been good to deal with for me in the past and they have several twist and length variations of a #17 Krieger 6mm.
  18. 243 AI Feeding

Thank you for your replies. I will spend some time on the mag box lips and see if I can work out the kinks and make it feed.

  20. 243 AI Feeding

A while back, I had a 700 BDL 22-250 re-barreled to a 243 AI. I also had a Wyatts Extended Magazine Box installed. Since doing that, I have not been able to get it to feed correctly. I am using Berger 105 Hybrids with a long COAL that does not leave a lot of spare room in the magazine. I can get...
