Sounds right...and to add insult to injury, he also brought me two 1,000 count boxes of Remington 7 1/2 BR primers...$20 per 1,000.

Used to be very common to get one pound canisters that were cardboard body with metal ends. Lots of various powders (especially the military surplus) came in cardboard containers, particularly the eight pounders but many smaller sizes as well. Very common to get a lot of the "shotgun" powders in...

No idea. But my last batch is the same way. Not sure when the switch was made. A lot of my friend's stock is from the era of cardboard canisters. As note, he is meticulous about humidity and storage.

Had a great visit with a long time friend today. Before we met up he asked if I was short on any loading materials. I told him that I was running a little short on 2400. He said he could fix that. Now you have to understand that this friend is what others call a hoarder. I don't, because he...

    Bore Condition

I hate to say that it says a lot about the honesty of the individual shop. There are so many really good and honest shops that it isn't necessary to patronize the crooks. I have been banned from two shops for "ruining" sales for them. The first one was a sales person trying to sell a guy a new 6...

    Bore Condition

A couple got offended - particularly when I rejected a couple offerings due to what I saw. I decided they didn't want my business very bad. One shop asked for full info on where and how to buy one. The next time I visited, they proudly handed me their own!

Exactly why I always take one of my flexible Teslongs along on any trip to a gun shop. t It has saved me a few times.

    Variation on bullet length?

Hmmm...variations in COAL are probably coming from your dies rather than the bullets. Think about it...assuming the bullets are all long enough to properly contact your seating stem in the first place, the stem setting determines the seating depth and overall length. If a bullet is longer than...

That is correct. It was introduced several years ago to assist in reducing glare on the image.

Injury Caused by Powder Mistake -- 28.5 gr of Lever Evolution VS 28.5 gr LiL Gun

I sort of see your point, but I see far more people confused by powder numbers like H4350, IMR4350 and AA4350 or IMR4064 - AA4064 or IMR4381 - H4831 or ...well, you get the picture. We got along just fine for quite a few years with powders like Unique, Bullseye, Blue Dot, Green Dot and Red Dot...

Injury Caused by Powder Mistake -- 28.5 gr of Lever Evolution VS 28.5 gr LiL Gun

Sorry it happened to you and glad you weren't hurt worse. Bad things can happen. Not to hold myself up as perfect, but I have long had the habit of placing a tag in the powder measure hopper when I fill it indicating exactly what powder is in it. Ideally, I never leave powder in a hopper anyway...

    Diopter for Revolver Sights

I'm in the same boat...sort of. I had to wear bifocals for about everything before I had my cataract surgery. Like you, my distance now is superb, but I often need +2 lenses to read when my eyes get tired, but not always. Iron sights for me haven't been much of a problem, but each person's...

    Powder Coverage

I used to shoot a lot of IMR4064 over the years. Still a great choice, but I use H4350 nowadays... works as well...maybe even better depending on rifle.

    Any readers out there??

I would agree as long as we are talking only about the books he himself actually wrote...not the ones supposedly written "from his extensive notes concerning story line ideas" by Smith wannabes after his death. Horse hockey! Pale copies of Smith's genius with only brief flashes barely imitating...

    Any readers out there??

Actually, I think you mean the book originally titled "Point of Impact". Later re-released as "Shooter" because of the movie name change. Great book...pretty good movie. About a year before "Point of Impact" was officially published I picked up a pre-print book in a yard sale that was a...

    Odd patch problem

Not disputing that it can be a problem, just the extent people go to to solve it. As @K22 posted, just turn a dedicated jag to a smaller diameter and use it rather than testing a dozen different patch manufacturers to find that ideal size. Jags are cheap and solve the problem. And yes, I have...
