    .243 help

A bit less than max charge of AA2700. Work carefully up from 43.0 grains with a book max of 46.5. Depending on your brass manufacturer, pressure may well start to show at around 44.0 or so. Be careful and go slow.

    .243 help

Re-evaluate your charge weights...Hodgdon shows Varget at a start of 36.0 grains to a max of 38.5 for a 75-grains bullet. IMR4320 is shown as starting at 37.7 and max at 41.5 for the same bullet.

    .243 help

Don't give up on those Hornady 75-grain Vmax bullets. They can be made to shoot very well indeed. Work on your powder charges in small increments before changing seating depths. Give us a detailed description concerning your die set-up and loading sequence. Hopefully you aren't crimping your...

Have you ever set off a primer while loading?

Of course that only works with a non-progressive press. Kinda defeats the purpose otherwise.

    .224 53 gr V-MAX

CFE223 for 3,412 fps. I also get 3,360 fps with AA2200 with good accuracy. Both loads are a little on the warm side, but show no pressure signs in my rifle. Follow book loads and work up slowly to what ever is safe in yours.

Have you ever set off a primer while loading?

Thanks...everyone else seems to have led a charmed life...or aren't coming clean!

Have you ever set off a primer while loading?

Had a few back in the "good old days" of having nothing but a Lee impact die set. Makes the old ears ring.

Who makes FC 223 REM brass with two-digit Date Stamp?

As far as I can recall, FC with the two digit date was indeed made by Federal.

    41 Magnum making a comeback?

Had two .41s over the years. Nothing really wrong with the cartridge, but it's neither fish nor fowl...Too much to edge out the .357 and not enough to match the .44s. I am glad to see some interest however. I just hate to see a cartridge just forgotten.

    17 Remington problem….

Neck turned? Maybe got a little too enthusiastic. Did that once on .243 rounds and the bullets in the magazine actually pulled out farther under recoil and then jammed (lightly) into the throat when cycled! Reverse of your issue, but worth checking.

    Shooting Chrony prices: used

Yeah, that looks like it might be a Caldwell. For reference, this is one of the Shooting Chrony styles (lots of them on eBay):

    Reloading

As a new loader, I would strongly advise you to find an experienced local reloader to mentor you. If you don't know of any, try stopping by a local range and making acquaintances. Learning by way of messaging can be done, but it is clumsy and very open to misunderstandings. While you are at it...

.17 Rem and the Hornady 25gr Vmax.

I wasn't aware of that...sad, but I have around 1,000 of them so I won't worry too much for a while. Benefits of having a buddy who hoards components that he will never use!

.17 Rem and the Hornady 25gr Vmax.

I miss the old Remington soft points. They shot reasonably well and thought they were big game bullets. Good penetration and expansion. These days it's the Hornady hollowpoints for anything bigger than a groundhogs and 25-grain VMax for groundhogs on down.

    Shooting Chrony prices: used

In the realm of "reasonably priced" chronographs, the Chrony still has a place. Though I moved to a Magnetospeed some time back for my rifles, I kept my old Chrony for handgun speed testing.

38 spl pull down bullets - orange stuff on the base.

Careful of your backstop. Back in '72 a friend rented a house out in the country. That was back when you could still (and I did) buy loose WWII milsurp for pennies. I had a 5-gallon bucket of miscellaneous .45 ACP ammo and we proceeded to shoot it into the farmer's massive corncob pile left from...
