Not TheCZKid, but living here I'll just say it's a lodgepole thicket. Pretty typical without underbrush, but lots of it gets cleared by the Forest Circus for widfire control. The area is the transition from high desert to lodgepole timber. Doug may chime in to clarify, as that's his 'backyard' so to speak.
That area is great for spotting elk movement in the timber while taking your rifle for a walk.

It's just the way the trees grow in some areas here, and also they do remove the debris for wildfire control.
