I had a wonderful night the other day. Watched some alfalfa and cleanded up a few barnyard chucks. What a surprise came when we got one this color. What say you guys? First one i ever saw like this. We had a 243AI 60gr sierra hp and 17hmr for close shots. Now thats a chuck of a different color!

How many of you have seen a black groundhog? Wife and I saw one in the 50 years we actively hunted them. Seen lots of blond ones in Floyd county VA and several albino ones but only one black one in Bedford county VA.

But was it a TRUE Blond?- check the color of the hair roots. Seen a couple black ones in my neck of the woods through the years.

We hve the black ones in NE Idaho and Montana. They have a yellow streak across the face. They call them "Hoary Marmots", which is recognized as a sub species.
I shot a true albino Rockchuck here about 35 years ago. I wasn't smart enough to skin him and have a body mount made.

Cool!

About 20 years ago i saw an albino on this farm. Must be a weird gene or something at this place

Hillbilly, that's some purty cool chit right there! Nice!

I should have mounted this one shot in 1980. He weighed 16.5 lbs. (Sako Vixen 223, Nosler 50gr SP, H335, 240 yds.)

I was doing some work with CCI in 1982 and one of their managers came out for ground squirrels and rockchucks. I shot a nice large male chuck, and Don Anderson from CCI took it home and got it mounted. Not sure if it's still there, but it was in the lobby of CCI/Speer for a number of years standing up and proud.

Have not been to the plant in a long while, he may still be in the lobby, dunno. He was about the same size as the one shown.
