Memories from days of 0ld.

Then came a buzz about 6mm bullets and their BC's. Had two M1A's built with match stocks [3 way adjustable buttstock, thumb wheel cheekpiece]. Shot them for a couple years, then went back to the spacegun.
Wasn't that tough to shoot an M1A in the Match Rifle category?

Good question.
It's been over 30 years, but as I remember, I had an aperture front sight installed instead of the 'ears'. Adjustable buttstock, adjustable cheekpiece.
Nice trigger - semi auto so no bolt manipulation.
243 so less recoil than 308.

But, had just made Expert - so who knows? But, I would love to shoot them again today.

I meant shooting against the higher scores of bolt guns since you bumped that to the match rifle category.

Ah!.

Back then, the advantages of bolt guns vs service rifles were in the stock adjustability, the sights and the trigger and [for AR15 service rifles] bullets with better BC's. A disadvantage of bolt guns is in disturbing your position as the bolt is cycled.

So, the M1A's that I had built, the only [slight] disadvantage was the trigger - but I didn't have to cycle a bolt.

I would bet that a national champion could win or come close with them.

While I have nostalgia for the two rifles, I'm much happier with my ar spacegun. Except for making the barrel, I'm able to do all my own gunsmithing.

My first rifle was a Browning MK2 30-06 Safari. Read all I could about the 30-06 because I had one in Iceland with the Marines, An M1. Read about German Salazar and loads from Ken Waters, Pet Loads, and found out about the Sierra 190gr. MK bullets using 52.5 grs. IMR 4350 and loaded it in the MK2 Safari and never looked back. I was hooked. Then a friend took me long range shooting and figured I needed a bolt gun too. Then found this forum and learned the best ways to reload.
