Neck Turning

I've never had the need to neck turn brass until now. So, which set up should I buy? There are so many choices, and I don't have any experience with any of them. Thanks, Bill

I have both the Sinclair neck turning tool as well as the PMA tool. There are other good ones too, but I feel the PMA would be a good choice for you as it's good quality and is designed for making easy adjustments.

Don't mean to hijack the thread as I'm in a similar situation, but does anyone offer a neck turning service? I have a box of Lapua 300 WM cases that I want to use for my 7-300, but the necks are to thick. Don't want to invest in the tool since it's the only time I'll ever use it. If I cant find anyone, they're going to be for sale soon.

I just did a fair amount of research on the topic for a new cartridge and ended up ordering the K+M. I wanted the PMA, but for a 40 degree shoulder they only offer the “short neck” version which supposedly can only accommodate a .25” neck.

If you're going to do it right, you also need a ball micrometer. Your regular calipers won't be up to it.

That of course raises another question. Whose ball micrometer? I use a digital Mitutoyo, but there are many options.

I'm just entering the 30BR business, for informal club score shooting bench rest. I'm thinking ADG 6BR brass expanded in a .332" neck. I have the unchambered barrel and I'm also have questions about the chamber I need. Thanks, Bill

Good to have them for sure, but the ultimate measurement is across the neck with your preferred bullet seated

I use K&M's and grind the cutter to shoulder angle plus 2° using an electronic level to set the grinder deck.
