Rendezvous 5.0

The HuffCo pot was $1,040 and went to Justin Vance.

Justin was the only guy paid in ($20) who came from out of the Top 14 end of Day 2 into the Top 14 at the end of the 16 Target Agg day 3

Wyatt @WHuff and I put in $100 each seed money 42 shooters bought in for $20 each.

We planned to split the pot 60/40 but Justin being the only shooter to make the jump took the whole pot.

Thanks to everyone who bought in. Already plans in the works for a bigger pot next year.

Justin Vance was there 7 years ago when I got started down this rabbit hole. He has always been an inspiration to Me. He is a hard working gentleman in all that He does. He shot a tremendous match and His rewards are well deserved. Hats off to You Justin and I hope to hook up with You somewhere at a range this fall :)

Best Regards … Jim Hoffman

Thank you for the kind words sir! Miss seeing you at the range, hopefully I can make it down sometime and we can do some shooting!

Shewwww what a match fellas! my first rendezvous, and to say I’m going home happy is an understatement! 5th place against this crowd is likely the highlight of my shooting career thus far! Without a doubt I will be back for 6.0! Congrats to Henry Brewer on his first appearance also and finishing 2nd! Can’t forget the other guy in the truck with us Shannon Webb for making it to the top 14 on his first appearance too! These WV hillbillies are going home happy! Huge shoutout to Blake for shooting his first 1” at a 1000, and sweeping the entire match! Congrats brother you earned it! See yall next year!

Rendezvous 5.0

What a week, I could not have asked for any better weather and conditions, finally !!
When you start with 68 of the very best long range shooters and have this set of conditions, well it was the perfect storm.
5440 record rds down range on paper 6000 sighters and all the testing between Friday and Tuesday evening an easy 12000 rds went down range. Only 1 reshoot and 1 target corner came loose.
10 records were changed out of the 12 we track for this event. I decided to track two more starting with rendezvous 5, 10 target aggs at both 600 and 1000.
I’m guessing Rendezvous 5.0 will be hard to beat if ever, I think it will be talked about for many years.
19 campers filled the place up starting Friday, we ate like kings , home cooked every day, match days it was catered, all good! 100 steaks grilled on Friday to top off the awards and a send off breakfast Saturday morning by Sara Pollard Jacobs.
The target crew did a fantastic job, they were actually running, they found out that doing a good job at something is seen and rewarded, they got a 1200.00 dollar bonus on top of their regular pay, without a doubt one of the best target crews ever! I have always been blessed with good target crews.
Dan the man, and Judee scored and measured just shy of 1100 targets for 3 days, daunting! My hat is off to them, targets were out super fast for everyone to watch on the screen, it’s the place to hang out at.
Dad kept the two track hot racing targets back and forth, my mom helped the caterers with food chores.
Sara the stats gal , had her job well in hand as always, when we started this place I always worried and tried to run everyone’s job, I’m sure I was a pain in the ass, not any more, I know my part and I know Sara has the rest taken care of.
I sure create a lot of work for my family.
I want to say thanks to everyone that pitches in from food to cooking and jumping in the range buggy to help in the days before the match .

The match payout was 17000.00 , we raised 800.00 for st Jude’s as well.
At 1000 yds we had 38 perfect 50 scores, 2 groups under 2” and 11 groups under 3”, at 600yds 50 perfect 50’s were shot, 2 groups under 1” and 10 groups under 1.216”

So here we go with the actual match!
There were so many guys shooting small and consistently hammering away, but two guys were in a league of their own.
Allan Carmichael and Curt T Knitt were day 1 and day 2 agg winners, they never weakened at any point, their groups and scores were simply amazing .
They had guys like Michael J. McWhorter , Chuck Napikoski, Dave Huffman and Blake Wilson on their tails.
When the 16 target agg was over, Allan and Curt had rewrote the rendezvous record book, Allan had set 2, Curt set 9 and Rich Butler set 1, Allan and Curt tied for the 16 target overall grand agg, but Allan’s blistering 3.063 group agg was the tie breaker, Curt had only dropped 12 points on 16 targets.
Richie butler set the 1000 yd 8 target group agg at 4.137”!
You guys killed it! To everyone chasing them, you guys shot amazing but these two were on fire!

When the 16 target agg is over and tallied, we call out the top 14 randomly to come draw a ear tag for bench placements, the top fourteen is a bench 1vs2 3vs4 and so on, head to head, the winner of each pairing will move on to the super 7 showdown which is a winner take all ending, the top 14 and super 7 are a side match that has a lot of suspense built in, they have no idea where they placed , only I do!!
When the tags were drawn Allan and Curt had drawn bench 1&2, what an epic battle, Allan shot a 4.266” agg and Curt a 3.748 Curt moved on.
When the Super Seven was done Blake Wilson shot a combined smoking agg of 2.954 with a pair of 50’s to win to win the Super 7 winner take all 1500.00
Henry Brewer Jr. was on his heels with a 2.247 agg with a 48 and a 50 for 2nd.

Allan took home 4075.00, Curt Knitt pulled in 4650.00, Blake Wilson 1600.00 , Mike Mcwhorter 800.00 and Dave Huffman 550.00

I’m not sure Rendezvous 5.0 will ever be outdone, but I hope so!!

New records at 600 yards

Single target score 50/.763 Curt Knitt
8 target group agg 1.533/395 Curt Knitt
8 target score 396/1.850 Allan Carmichael

1000 yards

Single target score 50/1.783 Curt Knitt
8 target group agg 4.137/369 Richie Butler
8 target score 392/4.812 Curt Knitt

600/1000 grand

16 target group agg 3.063/778 Allan Carmichael
16 target score 788 /3.217 Curt Knitt

20 target 600/1000

20 target group agg 3.217/ 985 Curt Knitt
20 target score 985/3.217 Curt Knitt

New records I plan on keeping starting today
10 target Group and score at 1000
4.772/492 curt knitt

10 target group and score at 600
1.662/493 curt knitt

Thanks to everyone that makes the valley what it has become , truly a great week with friends and family .
The friday nite band, Garrett Stephens and the Relics was an epic! End to the match!!!

Get outside , make memories , live life

Thanks

Amen to that /\

I always felt the 600, 1000 & Combined 16 Target were stand alone matchs much the same as LG HG & 2 gun that had their own champions, records etc.

The top 14 / Super 7 a match within itself requiring qualification.

Not taking anything away from Blake's win and glad he didn't waste the 14 shoot off when he took me out by .146" it was some great shooting in not great conditions.

Breakfast in the Valley this morning, Thanks Sara! Put the camper in the shed about a half hour ago

I know folks traveled farther but I may have broke a record pulling a camper
