Savage Shooters

I have a model 12 that I'm converting to 20P. I need input on a quality trigger. I have tried SSS, RifleBasix, and Timney. However, the Timney will not adjust down under 1.5lb's. I was told to go with a Jard. I researched it and it does meet my requirements, but I would like more input on it or hear more options on what is offered in the aftermarket world that caters to Savage.

Never been a Savage fan, but I do use and recommend the Jard series of triggers.

I've got them on all my Cooper rat rifles, all set at 10ozs. The nice thing about Jard is that you can change the pull weight just by a simple spring change. Jard stocks all weights of springs; easy-peasy.

Tried them all and wished I had'nt. I have and still compete with
Three Mod. 12 PTA actions, and all three are back using the red
blade triggers. Not sure what your expecting. And for what it's
worth, Jard was the worst one of all and they replaced it. Sent
that one back also. We had a thread going on Savage Shooters
about a new one coming down the pike from Bix and Andy. That
surly will be some expensive lipstick, but no thanks. Do the side
shim pack on the Accu trigger and use the remaining money for
something else......I did keep one Timney for a hunting rifle but I
keep it set for 2 lbs.

The thing with Mod12 Target trigger and any and all Savage Triggers are that POS stamped steel part that only the Jard IIRC replaces. I don't think anything helps that stamped steel horseshoe that really needs to go away. I put an Elfftmann in a Axis II precision and took it back out due to light primer strikes. Put the oem Accutrigger back in and viola it runs.

YMMV and good luck. I recommend Savage Rifle Shooters forum for more info and help.

There is only so much one can do. Stoning the edge slowly can help.

I have a Model 10 with the Timney - yeah 2 lbs - but not awful. That one is re barreled = no nut, in 6SLR, but likely to get a shorter, more efficient conversion soon - just for pest control.
My other is a 12 Long Range Precision. Shoots well enough. I quite like the Red trigger as is. It was available at a good discount and it was the trigger that sold it to me. It has little slop and needed no fettling - together with the excellent HS Precision stock. Oddly - I had to get a gunsmith to adjust the headspace - which was long - from new. ( It's a 6.5 who's name may not be spoken). It will get another barrel one day as I now know where the Swiss got their inspiration for rack and pinion railways - and as much as I enjoy cleaning copper from the inside of tubes, I don't need a full time job!

Top Bolt Release Savages- Rifle Basic II,; or JARD, Bottom bolt release- JARD, 5 Models, the SSS Competition Trigger is No Longer Made .I Have All 3, My JARD was # 1, before Production started. All the other triggers are in the 1.5 lb to 3 + lbs class

What kind of issues are you having with them. I’ve only used a couple of them, but they were a nice improvement over the standard accu-trigger.
First let me say, that this rifle and all my other production rifles were taken to my smith to have basic accuracy work done (actions bedded, triggers either worked or replaced and rings lapped). I decided to try the RB trigger in both a 110 and the 12. When I got them back, both had huge side-to-side slop, and the overall trigger just didn't feel like quality to me. I call RB and they said there shouldn't be any side-to-side movement. He said he would mail me out a shim kit. BTW- RB really stepped up here and did what they could during all this. Then one day I decided to check it again and this is where I found something really weird. I had the rifle completely vertical with me holding the grip and the buttstock on the bench, I bumped the trigger with my forefinger and the safety came off. I did this several times and got the same results. Each time the trigger had serious take-up and a lot of play. The shims had not been put in at this time. IDK, but that's when I decided to throw the towel in and go with another brand, hence the post. I was looking for something with equal pull weight with my other rat/bench rifles. All being 8oz. For now, I have decided to try the Jard. In regard to the factory Accu-Trigger, I'm amazed that some are simply cleaning them up and liking them, I just do not like the blade, nor the feel of the factory trigger.

I have two Savages--I put a RifleBasix on one--it was frustrating to start with as naturally I started with the 'light" spring--after much time spent I called--they were very helpful--turns out if you start with the 'heavy" spring you can actually tune the trigger--it took a few days but finally after zeroing in on the sear adjustment I wound up with a nice trigger that I like a Lot --was more trouble than it needed to be
Ok so on my other it came with a Red Blade --yes it will feel pretty decent right off but when you start aiming for lowest trigger pull it gets tricky and fussy--shimming the awful side play out of it was the best move I made--but..if you go too light it becomes unreliable and will act up--lock up and in general just be a PIA--so you discover that and wind up back at a higher pull weight--it is not bad as long as the blade thing is something you can live with or learn to live with.
I want to replace it and like you it seems the JARD attacks the stamped sear part issue-but I recently got a JARD for a CZ 457 and thought it was not very good--wound up selling it so..???
I guess I will try the JARD but the RifleBasix is a very good trigger ONCE you get it figured out and set correctly--None of these triggers are like a Remington style--at all--no way.
That said I love my Savage rifles and both shoot very well
The guy that comes up with a real trigger for Savage will get a new beach house
