6.5 creed load help.

So I started loading for my Bergara premier 6.5 Creed. I am using once fire Hornady brass, Nosler RDF 140gr with a starting out CBTO of 2.182. These marks happen when I chamber. Mag or single round. These marks only happen on the top side of the axis of the barrel (scope side) they do not go all the way around. I don’t think I am out to lunch on my CBTO length so I don’t see how I touch the lands. I am currently using a neck sizing bushing die but I am order a full sizer. Any thoughts!

This is where a bore scope would really be helpful.

Just guessing, if this is after a number of firings, it may be a build of carbon. If this is the first time you've chambered a rounds, then there's something wrong with the way the chamber was reamed. What might help with the problem is to run a patch with IOSSO bore cleaner on it (or use JB bore cleaning compound) doing 10-20 short strokes in that area, then clean the bore cleaner out. . .???

Just my thoughts. :)

BTW: knowing your CBTO doesn't tell anyone or help with anything since there's no info regarding the length of your freebore. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Better to know your COAL?

I will try cleaning. It’s definitely not the first time a rounds chambered but I don’t have a ton of rounds through the gun. Thanks

Is this happening when you load out of the magazine and when you single load?

Doesn't smell like an ammo runout issue, but have you measured it? Can you measure it before and after.

Factory barrel?

Loading or single feed does not make a difference. It is a factory barrel but it is a bergara and they are known for great barrels and quality control so I’d be extra sad if I got a lemon

Do you have the Hornady modified case to use to check your max seating depth? If you do see if the bullet comes out looking the same as the picture.

After a good clean the marks are still present but much less. I’m going for another round of hoppes no 9 and letting it marinate for a few hours. See the next pic for my max CBTO length with the Hornady gauge. My rough coal with just a caliper is 2.801

Take a bronze brush wet with solvent and give the barrel 10 in and out strokes.
How many rounds on the barrel?

Do you believe that you are touching the lands at 2.801 COAL?

Pictures of the case are showing the result of the problem. If you used a bore scope in the chamber it may show the problem. Good luck!

The first cartridge pic it appears like the bullet was pulled partially out? And the marks on the bullet from bolt rotating the round or 2 chambering attempts? At 2.801 you are well short of SAAMI with that bullet(Nosler load data).

There is a sharp burr or flange on the part of the chamber where the neck ends and the throat begins. You can see the un-scraped portion of the bullet in the area of allowable neck length. It will probably disappear (burn off), or you could short stroke it with a bronze brush.

I have seen this before. jd

2.801 is my current COAL with my CBTO being 2.181 max out CBTO being 2.251. Only about 80 rounds down the pipe.

By the way, how is the rifle shooting??jd
With 147 eld m match ammo it puts 2 dead center same hole and then one 1/4” low to the left at 100m. Literally can’t tell I took 3 shots because the first 2 are exactly on top of each other. Done it a few times. Not sure if the 3rd shot is the rifle or me crumbling under pressure. It’s a gong machine. I love Bergara.

If you look at the first pic I posted it looks like road rash though. Could those things cause this?

It looks about right if my theory is correct, but if you've put 80 shots through it, I would have expected it to be gone. jd
