$200K Stolen UPS Packages at UPS Worker's House

I worked nights for UPS when I was a kid. A few employees there stole packages on a regular basis. Virtually all the employees knew what was going on. Drugs and jewelry were a popular grab. Employees surmised what was in the boxes by their size and destination. There was very little tracking back then, probably none actually.

Kind of disappointing that it was local law enforcement not USPS that did the investigation.
I was in LE for around more than 2 decades. Not once, in any of that time, could I get the US Postal Inspectors office to take action or even assist in a mail fraud case.

I had many cases valued in the 10s of thousands and 2 in excess of $100,000 and the postal inspectors had absolutely no interest in doing anything to prosecute or assist in prosecution. I had one fraud in which an 80 year old woman sent $38k to a real address in NOLA.

We found out about it the following day when the woman's daughter heard about it. It was sent overnight USPS and we had delivery confirmation at the residence.

NOLA detectives went to the house, knocked on the door and when the door opened, they saw the packaging materials sitting on the coffee table in the living room area.

The guy gave a full confession and said he had done it dozens of times. He was paid by an "unknown" person to receive the packages and deposit the money.

He would then take the money down the street to a bank and deposit the money in several different accounts. All of this information was verified except, that it was an "unknown" person running the scheme. I am sure he knew exactly who was doing it.

Anyway, after the money was deposited, within a few minutes, it was removed from the account and disappeared. We never got that money back for the woman. The postal inspector refused to participate in the investigation and, as far as I know, nothing was ever done. They are the laziest, most useless government organization we have.

My same experience bringing cases to them, most were pretty useless.

Back in college I had two roommates who worked at UPS loading/unloading. Not only did some steal, they threw boxes around like they were footballs. Even had contests who could throw a box the furthest.

As far as USPS goes they are a failed entity. Need to DOGE it.

Package drivers can make $120,000 if you work 12 hours a day.
Semi drivers can make $150,000+
$200,000 is pretty much impossible. You can only work per DOT rules
so many hours.
They have been cutting back on hours the last couple years in some areas.
This guy was more than likely a part time or a loader.
You can shove boxes in-between the trailers and the building and go back later
and pick them up. Most buildings have some cameras or security to help
prevent this now.
But as you can see it still happens, until you get caught.
Every pkg. has been scanned or has been tracked before or after it's been picked
up from a shipper. So it's in the system before the turds ever get their hands on it.

Yeah it's sad .he was probably getting nickels and dimes selling off the stolen items compared to actual values people paid .
I've had a few things disappear from USPS hubs.sad times hope it gets better.uhgaa

That's a bit of a stretch. Not trying to be combative but I'm not sure how that's possible to make that much as a driver
I agree. I have a friend that works for UPS as a driver and, although we have never spoken directly about how much he makes, I know it's a good living. About 10 years or so ago, he mentioned that he was making about 80k. I don't think it has gone up that much in a decade. They also work VERY hard for that money. Certain times of year he doesn't get home til 8-9pm and he is on the road by 8 or so the next morning and it is go, go, go that whole time.

I have heard their mechanics make real good money, probably more than the drivers.

It's a good living but like you said have to work for it. Things have changed with ups especially now that we are losing 50% of the amazon volume we had by next year. They're wanting drivers to work longer hours to make up for it and cut routes so less people on road. Yes it hasn't gone up that much but the amount of pieces and miles has gone up more drastically.

We had a great boss who could delegate work very evenly but higher ups at UPS wouldn't let him manage the 3 centers he was in charge of so he quit. Had one of the most productive and efficient centers in the nation. It's garbage now. Micro managing to the finest. One size doesn't fit all.

Good pay/benefits but wife and young kids don't see me during the week much some times at all. It all started just over a year ago.

Walmart pretty much guarantee their semi-truck drivers will make $100,00 their first year.

Big theft type going on at USPS is an employee stealing letters hoping to find checks written to someone for payments. They "wash" the check with whiteout scribble in a new payee, sign it illegibly and write in a large amount of money in the payment box. Then deposit it to an account via an automatic teller machine. These machines are as dumb as a coot and do not recognize all the film flam on the check, process it and whoosh send it to your bank. My bank just processes requests without looking at the cobbled together fake check and sends the money off. It's up to you to see the fraud and deal with your bank to get your stolen money back. A ten year old looking at the check would not have cleared it for processing. Here is where AI would be a big help in red flagging these washed check for a human to look at. What a novel concept that is.

Union negotiated wages most regular drivers are with the Teamsters. during peak season they have a lot of over time. with a good route it is possible.
