Bolt shroud gizmo

the bolt handle turned the shroud screwed into the bolt body to the point where the gap between the face of the shroud flange and the back of the bolt body was almost nonexistent
That's something I've thought about but haven't done anything towards it. All it would take is another order to McMaster to get some shims coming. I suppose I could easily turn a shim out as well. Not sure if there'd be a gain over and above a fitted Speedy style shroud but who knows? Probably need to check back surface of the bolt.

On a Rh Rem. Action, the shroud screws out as the bolt is closed.

I just finished making a shroud for a Panda. I used the delrin af. I cut the threads for a snug fit, turned the area for the thread relief in the bolt for a snug fit. When I set up to cut the flats and cocking piece slot, I ran the piece into the bolt to contact the shoulder, then backed off about a 1/8 turn, then marked the location. Came out great.

One thing to consider about a plastic shroud, safety. In case of a catastrophic case failure you might end up with a face full of firing pin. Somewhere on my old computer I have a picture of Jackie's old Farley, with the bolt closed, looking from the port side. The bolt body has a series of large holes all the way down the side through which you can see the firing pin and spring, I never asked him why, but one thought came to mind, which was gas venting, for safety.

You can get them in .502 or .510. The PTG 'Speedy' shroud is .550, I believe.

I got one of each of the Cortina to have in the shop. I didn't realize the Speedy version was something you could still get. PTG says they're in stock

As you know I did for awhile. Moved to KC area and sold the Wichita and Champlin to a couple of guys in Texas. Apparently not progress from them yet.
