F-open cartridge for lazy people

.......... and pick one that suits US shooting practices and conditions as you'll presumably continue using it back home after the 'Worlds'. The WSMs suit our conditions and shooting format, but the 7WSM hasn't been successful in yours. US String shooting when combined with high ambient temperatures produces too much chamber and barrel heat for best results and kills barrels in short order with this cartridge. I imagine the 7PRC is a good option, as was the 284 in the 'Worlds' at Raton back in 2013.
I live in continental Europe:). But thanks.

If this cartridge is specifically for LR matches then any of those 6mm's projectiles will be at a great disadvantage unless wind is nonexistent. One of the 7mm variants or even 30 cal would be better suited.

I agree with most of the postings saying a BIG 7 is the best for F-Open. I shoot a 7mm Sherman Short and .300 WSMs. Both are excellent>>>but I am growing weary of fighting recoil and torque. So, If I had to settle on just 1 cartridge / caliber, it would be the 7 Sherman Short. When I first got mine, I had to fireform "unimproved" Sherman brass to the desired 40 degree shoulder. Now Rich has come out with brass that has the 40 degree shoulder. Oh and it is ADG brass which is excellent! I have found 3 powders that work consistently well in the Sherman with 180 / 184 Hybrids. RL23, VV N565 and even H4350. I can't get RL-23 so I tried H4831sc. It "works" but not as well as RL-23. But one that does work is N565. It is a VERY accurate cartridge, easy to load for and is an "improved" cartridge right out of the starting gate. Try it! It is "ready made" for the F-Open shooter.

That was my primary thought 3 years ago. Now, I see more and more people switching to magnums for 1000 yards. Does it make sense nowadays to build a new .284 instead of e.g. 7PRC or 7WSM?
Talking with a customer yesterday, his words not mine....
"Running a 6.5-7prcw @ 2850-2880, is right where I ran my .284."
That being said if you have a standard .308 bolt face run a .284, if you have a magnum action run the 6.5-7prcw,
7 rsaum.

That 284 would be a Shehane and not a straight 284 Win which likes 2770-2820fps.

I heard Tracy Harrold in a podcast comment that the magnums won't shoot low single match scores like the 284s but will agg better over the course of a long match.

If I were just getting started in 1k F-Class, I would build a 7-6.5 PRCW. Very easy to tune, easy to shoot, and is easy on brass if you don't overpressure it.

We had our Nationals last week and the top two were 7 PRCWs, both hammering at longs.
I believe I saw a comment here {on the forum} by Alex Wheeler about the 7PRCW doing everything a .284 does, but better… Certainly just the issue of brass availability puts it well ahead of a 7 SAUM and that is a positive thing and barrel life is just a bit better as well.
Berger 180 hybrid or 184’s run at 2’850 seem to be the ”go to”.

If you want to run them “Hot”, say 3’000 or more than you better get a Rollsizer to help keep the “clickers” away…

Depends on what competition we are talking about but in LR BR its the 6BRA. For F-open its no 6mm at all. Lazy men dont break records :)
Seems to me that shooting a 6mm in F-Class long range would be anything but lazy.
To be competitive, you would have to tune better, read wind better, and have better consistency all the way around. In the end, they who make the best wind calls break the records.
If anything, shooting the new latest magnum wiz bang cartridge with the least amount of wind drift would seem be the lazy option.

I agree with you 100% in that regard. But if you other guy works as hard with a 7mm you loose.
But my answer was more direct to his question of easy to tune cartridges. Thats mostly a myth. I wont get too deep into that though.
