Goofy Gun Slang and Expressions

I'm with SEM on this one. It's probably the most basic term in the shooting community. There was a thread on this forum, where the question was asked, "Caliber based on a 243 70 gr. tnt". Then proceeded to name 5 different chamberings. How do you teach new shooters, when so many supposedly experienced people spew such nonsense? Words have meaning.

.243" is the bore size (some say 6mm). NOT 243 Win (the cambering)... He was identifying the bullet in question.

What are some of the phrases you hear around and about guns and gun people that really make you cringe? the one that gets me is "I had a barrel spun up!" The amount of time and effort that most quality smiths spend learning to thread and chamber and crown a barrel, let alone the equipment and shop they bought and paid for to do such work, make my skin crawl. Do some of you have other cringe worthy stuff you hear in the gun world?
Yes Sir! That is the one that bothers me the most!

All the "cool-guy" terms like spun up, heads, tips pills, build and "if I do my part" don't bother me as much as people on here that have "something for sell" or (much worse) post in a reloading thread with totally incomplete or even a different cartridge from the thread's subject. Also, the posters who want to tell others that a load they are (and have been long term) is "way over pressure according to Quick Load" when they don't even have all the pertinent specs to be able to give a specific answer (like case volume, etc).

This thread really bring a smile to my face and a nifty level of amusement. A lot of the people know I'm a gun
guy with my own personal 500 yard range. A couple of things that amuse me are they are not impressed with my 2.25" 500 yard five shot group or that I may not respond to their claim that they did a head shot on a turkey at 400 yards with their 22-250, cold bore no less. Impressive shooting;)

I want that guy’s gun! I missed a turkey head shot at 130 yards! I was using a 223. Maybe that’s why. I shoulda used a Creedmoor!

Many years ago a guy was trying to sell me his MIA with a scope on it.
Claimed the rifle would hit a fly at 100 yards.

"If I do my part" thats one that i didn't understand, and hate. But I was schooled by someone on here. You could he dehydrated from too much time on the line, low blood sugar in the middle of a match, need to take a dump, any kind of medical condition, too tired. I now thanks to a kind member know what is meant by the expression, I still hate it and it sounds like it is, a "way cool" way to say I lost concentration.
