Thanksgiving cookin’

Time to show off your Thanksgiving cookin. Headed to our family dinner today. Since Mom’s passing I’ve been making the dumplings. I make mine with dark meat whereas Mom always used white. I’ve always thought mine were a bit better because of that. My daughter says mine will never be as good because “Grandma makes hers with Grandma lovin.” I’ve got two crock pots full. IMG_4084.jpeg

An uncle did this years ago. Dang that was some good turkey. I would like to do the same, but I don’t know how many jalapeños or if he added them halfway through. The Butterball Hotline was no help. Has anyone here ever heard of this? It would be an expensive experiment to mess up.

Thanks. Lee

Maybe put the jalapeño in your dressing and stuff your turkey.

Can't speak to the peppers themselves but as for the distribution method, I know I've done blended butter with different spices and such and then pack it under the skin. You can get your hand under the skin pretty easy and spread the butter mix out to most of the breast and body area and it leads to a great crackled skin and the meat absorbs the flavor very well. Works great for when on the Traeger but can't swear to use in a fryer.
I also like @Bc'z idea of adding to stuffing.

I typically add a few jalapenos and 1/2 pound or so of browned hot sausage (chorizo if you have it) to the stuffing. Use a good poultry rub and coat the inside of the cavity and then stuff. If you can get some of the rub under the skin, do so. I then wrap the entire turkey in bacon and do in on the smoker long and slow for up to 12 hours depending on the size of the bird. Turns out really good.

Was at my insurance agents the other week. Somehow we got onto the subject of food; a variety of food….There was another customer there and he brought up that his wife made pecan pie with maple syrup. That’s all it took…. Looked at three different recipes and got the jist of it, came up with what I thought would work well. It did, confirmed through “mouth testing” of five different people. Yes, maple syrup does a great job.

A little different here as we're privileged to get to serve others at Thanksgiving. Photos are from last year. Looking to provide meals for +2500 folks that can't afford a Thanksgiving meal, take-outs to those that can't fix for themselves anymore, those with no where to go for Thanksgiving and/or anyone hungry. Thanks to all the people who sacrifice their days to help prepare this meal and local suppliers that provide/donate food! May God receive all the glory and we have so much to be thankful for!

Now THAT is the Christmas spirit!! May God bless you and your family and may we all be a little more giving to those in need.

When we moved to our Frog home we met a lot of people at the same time. We’ve been here for 2 1/2 years now and still socialize with them. We are having Thanksgiving with 16 of our neighborhood friends. The host is doing the Turkey and the rest of us are bringing the rest of the meal.
