107 years ago today my Grandpa Smalley was vacationing in Italy with a bunch of his US Army friends. His diary from that day reads " Back to work, feeling pretty good. Armistice signed 11 month 11 day 11 hour."

I served but I would like to post a remembrance of a high school friend, Robert McPherson, a Marine, who was killed in combat at Khe Shah, Vietnam in 1968. You are not forgotten Bucky. I have a tracing of your inscription from the Wall. Rest in peace brother.

Get a haircut

I was waiting outside the Post PX at Ft Ord, waiting for some buddies when the Post SM came up and gave me a buck to get a haircut. Since I was with my buddies, I delayed. The Post SM came around again and put me in his car and took me back to my company. He had a "discussion" with my CO while I waited at attention. After he left my CO, XO, 1st. Sergeant, and several drill sergeants came out, measured my hair. I was told to go get a haircut and report back to the 1st Sgt. I was working in the Orderly Room as a clerk and knew the Top pretty well. One day, while we were alone, he confided that the Cadre got a good laugh because my hair was 1/4" long and did not touch my ears!!!
