Alabama Believes in 2A!

Well, okay I guess...but looks like I'll continue having to drive out-of-state to shoot in competitions at an established 1,000-yard range. In short, thank God for Tennessee.

Next year, Central Alabama Gun Club will have another range added to our property. Berms will be at 200, 300, 600, & 1000yds.
Motions were made so that no construction could begin until the property was paid for. That's next year. Then it has to be cleared, timber sold, bulldozer work, etc etc.

We believe that this range will bring in many shooters to out Service Rifle & F Class programs.

Same here in NW FL Danny. Ever since I started into Highpower back in the early 90’s we’ve had to travel to out-of-state matches in TN, GA,MS,OH,WA & AZ, etc for Long Range. Hope the new range above materializes before I get too old. haha

Thats great news. Shelby county is convenient to B"ham and north/central Al. I am way over in Lamar county on the Ms. line and like others , I have got too old (82). Land in Shelby Co. is very high. I wonder how they found that large of a tract there. Years past I traveled to rimfire matches in that Co and it was heavy populated then. The public shooting ranges in Al. are in the WMA's and are crappy. Texas, where is the central Alabama range?

The plan, as I have been told by insiders, does include a 1200 yard rifle range. Not sure at what point but it's quite possible with only minimal work due to the fact there was a long flat runway on the property before.
ALSO, BGTC (now located in Hoover) has begun construction on new facilities that will (I am told) include ranges of 1100 and 1400 yards.

You haven't been. to a WMA range lately! The WMA range in Helena/Pelham area, has been totally updated and has two full time range safety officers.

There's also Alabama Precision in Carbon Hill, but most of yall wouldn't go there since they mostly do
PRS and NRL Hunter type shooting.

OH HOORAY! there are 12 others like this in some way, the article says, what it does not say, That if you in Auburn or Montgomery your screwed as none of them are convenient to ether city, wonderful they (Birmingham) gets another range close by, The only thing we have here is a spot in the forest in Tuskegee, and then the private clubs, one is very nice but very expensive including, paying for your guests if your a member and the other is a hole and most shoots get canceled and if one doesn't everyone is so surprised, That they didn't plan on attending because they figured it would be canceled, I would be surprised if that one is open much longer, Yea if you live down here you can add 5 hours on your shooting day for drive time, wonderful.

The location of this new facility will be about an hour from Montgomery. In reality, it is about 40-45 minutes from Birmingham. The south Shelby County folks will like Alabaster, Pelham, Calera and Columbiana will be very close.
It is going to be about an hour drive for me and I am about 15 minutes from CMP Talladega now.
It"s a shame there is no suitable facility in the Auburn-Opelika area but if AU closed the revolving door ofFB coaches there might be more land to put it on. ;)
