Advice needed on scope to look at

Kris,
Since this will be a major investment, find a way to look through any and all of the scopes you are considering. Sightron has some very nice offerings in their top end lines along with a great warranty. Personally I would probably start by listening all the options you want, and then thin the herd based on looking through each if at all possible. Optical clarity to my eyes trumps everything to my way of thinking. Good luck.
Paul
To take the Sightron positives a bit further, their 4x1 parallex adjustment dual knob puts their 10x50x60 SVED In a class all by itself. It also has a big eyebox while some of the above mentioned scopes have short eyeboxes. I have several and am a fan. If your a vet they have a very good program for you, call them.

Can you tell me more about the parallax adjustment?

Sit at a march and watch guys playing with the parallex adjustment, back and forth, back and forth, trying to get itbto stop on the correct spot. With the 4 times more sensitive adjustment on the Sightron you can easily stop at the correct place. Most often with a conventional knob you can not stop at the best spot.

Look at the Maven 5-30. Great Clear scope with a lifetime warrenty.
Look at the SHR-W reticle. MOA based. Use mine on my .22 F-class rifle

Ok so these are the options I think I want lol.

Number one is clear glass!!!
Good warranty
5-50x or similar range
Moa
Center dot or circle with dot
Windage holdoffs
First focal
Zero stop would be nice but not essential
I'm not worried about the weight.

Honestly my biggest obstacle is going to be getting to look through these scopes.

Hopefully I'm not being unrealistic.

Kris

A little light on the upper mag. range

A nice scope and if you can find a used or demo price.

Two most important things ?
Your eyes will let you know what they like !
It must repeat in adjustments,
After that frosting on the cake .

I really do like the look of the vortex.

If you’re seriously considering a FFP with a huge zoom range, like 10x I would definitely pay close attention to reticle design. That’s a huge ask to be functional at the various powers. The widest zoom range FFP in my safe is a Tract Toric 4.5-30x56 in MOA. That’s a 6-2/3 mag range. I’m still getting acquainted with it, but the reticle info doesn’t become useful until about 10x. Been doing most of my shooting at around 25x. My others are 4x mag ranges, 6-24 & 5-20. IMO something like a 7-28 would be ideal. Of course, I’d probably be the only one to buy one.

March makes fantastic scopes. It may be tough to find one to look thru exactly like you’re considering, though. You’ll spend considerably more for a March. It will save you some weight vs the Tract (and other LOW offerings) and Vortex Razor.

Zeiss LRP S3 6-36 or Gen 3 Razor 6-36.
Son has the Zeiss and the 5-50 Tenmile, the Zeiss was much better in heavy mirage and to both our eyes, the Tenmile gets dark and fuzzy on max power.
I have a 5-40 Sightron SV III, love the scope, great glass but it is only in mils.

So out of those scopes, which would you buy?

I saw one of the manufacturers offers a variable that goes to 27x. I can't remember which one though.

Neither of us would buy the Tenmile again, it is a nice scope though.
Between the S-3 and the Gen 3, I would choose the reticle and features you like best, don’t think you can go wrong with either.

The illumination on the S3 is bright enough in daylight to make a shot on low power in a hunting situation up close. MK Machining had the S3 on sale recently and I think they throw in a level and throw lever for free.

I have no regrets on buying the SVIII 5-40, I think the glass is as good or better than the S-3, but it is a toad at 3.1 lbs. Ring selection was limited when I bought it, fortunately I like ARC rings and they had options for a 40mm tube. Again it is mils, which I prefer.

Arc rings are what I use, I love them!

Like many here I have gone through a Lot of scopes.
By far the sharpest scope and best ones I own are TRACT TORIC-- their flagship
It is made by LOW like many of the top end units available no matter what the brand name on the unit--the glass is the best I have seen , tested or used. Every person that looks through mine says the same thing--Bright SHARP as they have ever seen--we really like the reticle as well
Top that off with two company owners that are second to None in customer service--and well...you can't go wrong.

I wish they offered a higher power than 30x.

Is this saying that the parallax is a more coarse adjustment? like it moves more with a smaller rotation of the dial. I think this would be a great move for most, it's hard to tell where it's truly the best. if it moved quicker you'd find the good spot much easier
