tails for flags

I bought a yard each of three different weights of spinnaker cloth and cut it in several different widths and lengths and decided I liked the pink surveyor tape the best on my green and orange Ezell flags.
I learned at the UBR Nationals shooting over somebody else’s Ezell flags that orange and yellow flags don’t show me anything when they’re on the yellow side.

Thanks! One thing I've found making flags is that there are a ton more people out there in the world than I ever dreamed, that see things differently from the rest of us. Not only that, but there are different color backgrounds at different times of year. I tell people all the time when they ask which color flags to get, that you simply can't go wrong with the green/orange but a ton of people love that yellow too. That's why I still make them. It pops and I have a lot of demand for those. It does depend on lighting and background as well as our vision. I never thought anything about that until I started making a product that is color/vision dependent. It's easy to assume everyone sees the world like we do..but they don't and some people can see certain colors great while others, they can't. Our buddy Larry is color blind to some colors. He preferred yellow/black. Murray loves the yellow/orange. You just never know. Out of literally a few thousand flags sold, I do what I can and have very few complaints at all, but I can't make every color a one off to suit. For a while, I kinda did, offering custom colors for people. As time went, that just became impractical as it grew and had to change the process of making them to meet demand. Now, I get my fiberglass in big sheets, put vinyl on both sides of all of it, then carry it to a lazer shop to be cut out into pre-programmed shapes and bring it all back to the shop and assemble things...after all other parts are done too. This way was/is necessary to keep up but it pretty much did away with custom colors unless I get a call about the time I'm starting a batch.

I could see the yellow to 100 just ok but past 100 it would pretty much disappear on me,,my visions been getting worse for years though. They up my prescription ever time I get my eyes checked.

I can see the orange/ green flags we’ll though and the pink ribbon pops to my eyes,, with the different heights I set the flags at different ranges I just tare the pink tape off the flags and tie new on ever match. It’s basically free.

Pink is great. Ordering the colors one color at a time is too expensive. I ordered several colors and the orange was the favorite so i doubled up on it. Now I'm out of pink & only a few wihite but i have a bunch of orange, hvy & light.
So I'm kinda forced to wait until the orange sells before i can order more.
I have Florescent green & darker hvy green also.

Pink does work pretty well. David Halblom use to offer a color called raspberry that I liked best of all...kinda a dark pink, if ya will. ymmv and good luck finding them unless one of the new crop of makers will offer them. I've mentioned it to at least a couple of them.
I've got some of Dave's raspberry ones...love 'em. I wrapped one around his head once and started singing 'Raspberry Berret'. :p

Dave Halblom at Flying Fish Fundamentals makes nice sail tails with good metal grommets for swivel hooks. -Al
+1 on FFF sail tails & David Halblom.

For me the surveyors tape flags are way too sensitive, and the worst part is that they get completely horizontal around 4-5 mph and then it’s hard to tell the difference between 6-7 vs 10-12. You really need to know that. I find the heavier sail tails get to about 45 degrees with about 4-5 mph, but still a lot of sensitivity left to judge when wind speed is higher than that. I like a combination of wind probes and flags with the sail tails.

The brightest DayGlo Yellow would suit me fine.

Depending on the ground and surrounding colors.
Ppl that shoot over red clay and tan sand like the green. Ppl that shoot with grass and trees around like white pink orange.
I like the pink , it turns darker in time, nearer the target and white or orange closer to me.
2 & 300 = 6 flags = 2 pink, 2 orange 2 white.

All the time windy 10+ would benefit from heavier tails.
The flags have wire clips. I use small paper clips or the light aluminum split rings.

Sail tails are U shaped and ride the wind straight like a gage arm .
