Shooter unhurt, teammate caught wood shards in hand, nothing serious thank God.
Primer looks fine, case stuck in barrel. Does not "appear" to be ammo related.

Bad lot of barrel steel is a possibility.

That would be easy to prove in a lab. I hope the shooter sends it off for examination.

ETA: I'm not suggesting it is the barrel. Instead, I'm thinking of testing in order to eliminate it as the cause. Retaining the primer is not conclusive to me that the ammo didn't have a part in this. Weird things happen during failure sequences.

I'm not a metallurgist. But it looks like the grain structure is running lateral to the bore. Maybe bad batch of steel? Or manufacturing?

That will probably remain confidential to avoid internet trolls having a field day with it.

Crazy thing is team says round scored a 10 on target at 1000 yards. I was there as a line officer.

Hopefully it doesn’t come down to a certain lot of barrels from this barrel manufacturer. That’s the only reason I care.

Bullet never impacted Target. I spoke to the score keeper and also the target puller and they both told me the same thing. Bullet did not hit the target.
